Patrick Allen Bamburg, 29, of Madison, SD, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, due to complications from blood clots. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.
Family-present visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD.
Patrick was born on Feb. 10, 1995, to David and Maureen "Marny" (Storm) Bamburg at Ellsworth Air Force Base where his Dad was stationed at the time.
Shortly after Patrick was born, David was then stationed at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, where Patrick's sister, Ashley, was born. The family of four moved to several other places where David was called to, including back to Rapid City while he was deployed to Korea, Colorado Springs, Knoxville, TN, and Denver. The family moved back to Rapid City in 2008 when David transitioned back into civilian life.
Patrick attended middle school and Rapid City High School in Rapid City, SD, and graduated in 2014. Throughout high school, he enjoyed working at Papa Murphy's.
After graduation, he attended Black Hills State University for a year. Within the next few years, he followed his creative passion for art and animation in various roles and internships at places including Pepsi, Ellsworth Air Force Base, and KOTA-TV in Rapid City.
In 2018, Patrick transferred to Dakota State University in Madison to complete his Animation degree, graduating in December 2020. It was during this time, in March 2020, that Patrick began dating his good friend Makayla Welbig. Their relationship grew into love. They dated long distance for a while, and got engaged in December 2021. The following summer, Patrick moved back to Madison from Rapid City.
On Oct. 1, 2022, Patrick married the love of his life, Makayla, on a beautiful fall day at St. Simon & Jude Catholic Church in Flandreau, SD. They made their home in Madison.
In his time after graduating college, Patrick held various job positions, including Amazon and as a paraprofessional in Colman, SD. He worked at the Madison Daily Leader in printing and layout in 2022, and had recently returned there to work in March 2024.
No matter what job positions he held, Patrick's true passion was animation and art. He could often be found with his tablet and stylus pen in hand, sketching away. He even sold his original art and prints at several conventions, including SiouxperCon.
Apart from his art, Patrick also enjoyed Pokémon, anime, reading, video games, and spending time with his wife, Makayla, and their two cats, Lucky and Draco.
Patrick is survived by his loving wife, Makayla Bamburg; his parents, David and Marny Bamburg; his sister, Ashley Bamburg; his grandparents, Ruben "RL" and JoAnn Bamburg, and Keith and Miriam Storm; his in-laws, Kim and Terry Welbig; brother-in-law, Brian (Jenna) Welbig; brother-in-law Cody (Kristy) Welbig; niece, Anna Welbig; and lots of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandma, Linda Bamburg; aunt, Becky Bamburg; great-grandma Ruby Bamburg; great-grandpa, Louis Bamburg; and nephew, Killian Jones Bamburg.
Patrick will be deeply missed by his wife, family, and friends. He may have been known as a quiet person, but he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
