Patrick W. Cameron

OBITUARY

Patrick Wayne Cameron was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 5, 1951 to the late Charlie V Cameron and Charlotte Elaine (Morrison) Cameron. He departed this life on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

He was educated in the Atlanta Public School System and later studied Early Childhood Education and Graphic Illustration at Clark College (Atlanta University Center) (1972) and continued his studies in Early Childhood and Psychology at Georgia State University (1974).

Pat was the third of nine children, and as a natural artist, he shared floor space for drawing with his siblings beginning at the age of three. He first discovered his talent when his third grade teacher let him explore making art with different colors of paper. However, it was his sixth grade teacher, the late Mrs. Carolyn Sims, who befriended him and whose instruction stimulated his interest in art and design and helped him develop his art skills. Mrs. Sims was a mentor and "like a mother" to Pat as she awakened his talent for all things art, which led him to become a protégé of his high school art teacher, Ms. Alma Simmons, and later study with Herman "Kofi" Bailey.

The influence that Pat's family, and his close friend, Rodney, had in his work meant a lot to him, from loved ones posing so that he could capture a desired facial expression to creating titles for pieces in his art collection. Pat became a self-taught artist who found inspiration through the beauty in the eyes and souls of everyday people.

Pat was a firm believer in God. The Lord's Prayer and The 23rd Psalm were his favorite scriptures to read and recite daily.

Pat was a dedicated teacher and Artist in Residence for over thirty-five years in the Atlanta Public School System where he touched the lives of students, teachers, staff, administrators, and parents. He was also active in the local and global community, sharing his extensive knowledge and God-given gift as an educator and artist. Pat inspired others to "listen carefully" not only with their ears but with their eyes, and all who did bore witness to the beauty of art in life and life in art.

Pat was preceded in death by his brother, Charles W. Cameron, and adopted brother Walter C. Amey, Jr.

Pat is survived by his five sisters: Sylviaonne "Cherry" Grant, Veronica "Pinkey" Chisolm, Carol "Peaches" Cameron-Robinson, Shelia "Tune" Cameron (Walter), Cathy Cameron, and Connie Cameron (Charles); and two brothers, Alan Cameron (Valerie) and Kenneth "Trukeyio" Cameron, Sr. (Julia); honorary brother and friend Rodney Gibson; adopted son Christopher McClarty (Victoria); and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and close friends.
