Patrick L. "Paddy" Culbert
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother
Patrick L. "Paddy" Culbert, 76, husband of Darlene (Russell) Culbert and the late Judith L. Culbert who died in 2007, died Wednesday, October 9, peacefully at his home in Pelham surrounded by his loving family.
Patrick will be remembered as a man with a remarkable passion for life. He touched so many lives around the world with his extreme charisma and intelligence. Patrick walked into a room and knew everyone that was there within minutes. He was able to make lifelong friends in just moments no matter where he was. Patrick was strong willed and loved to reminisce about life stories with just about anyone who listened. Among his interests were family, Ireland, politics, birds, reading, trying new foods, fast antique cars, and World travel, to mention a few.
Born in Ware, Massachusetts, on March 22, 1948, he was a son of the late Francis P. and Florette (Poirier) Culbert and attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. He then received an associate's degree in business management from Franklin Pierce University.
Patrick served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a proud Veteran of the Vietnam war. He worked as a jet engine mechanic and achieved the rank of Sergeant.
He was retired from Facilitec, Inc. where he was a Regional Operational Manager. In addition, he owned and operated J.P. Appliances in Lowell for many years. Following his time in the Air Force Patrick worked for many years with Digital Equipment Corp where he made many lifelong friends.
Patrick was a two term New Hampshire State Representative. He was very proud to have been instrumental in passing the MacBride Principles in NH- consisting of nine fair employment principles - are a corporate code of conduct for United States companies doing business in Northern Ireland, as well at the Medicinal Marijuana Bill.
He was a former Commander of the American Legion Post 100 in Pelham, N.H. He was a member of the Pelham Planning Board for over thirty years. He was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
In Addition to his wife Darlene, Patrick is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. Spychalski and her husband Mark J. of Lynnfield, MA.; a son, Francis P. Culbert II and his wife Dianna L. of Hampton, N.H.; two step-sons, Jason R. Turcotte and his wife Joanna of Lowell and Adam Q. Turcotte of Lisbon, ME.; five grandchildren, Patrick Spychalski, Michaela Gallant, Julianna, Justin and Xavier Turcotte; a sister, Dawn Castner and her husband Chris, of China, ME; four brothers, Timothy Culbert of Winthrop, ME, Joseph Culbert of Lowell, James Culbert of Manchester, N.H. and John Culbert and his wife Linda of Dracut; his in-laws, Debbie Chartier and her husband Leo, Dean Russell, Gail Spinney and her husband Frank, Dennis Russell and his wife Darla, Joyce Russell and her husband Dan Noseworthy and Dana Russell; his mother-in-law, Geraldine Russell of Bristol, ME; his special cousins, Larry Bucci and Judy Bradley and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife Judith, Patrick was pre-deceased by two grandchildren, Ella Marie and Mark Spychalski.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 19 at the American Legion Post 100, 32 Windham Rd, Pelham, N.H. at 1:30pm. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2 Commerce Drive Suite 210, Bedford, N.H. 03110. Arrangements by the Pelham Funeral Home, 11 Nashua Rd. Pelham, N.H.

I "worked" with Paddy driving for Hertz. It wasn't really work we laughed and swapped stories for years. I considered him a great friend. Sorry Darlene and family he was a special man.
