Patrick Blair Fagen

October 19, 1949 ~ January 13, 2026

Patrick Blair Fagen, 76, was born in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, and passed away peacefully at his home on January 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A brilliant engineer and dedicated patriot, Patrick lived a life defined by intellectual curiosity, unwavering responsibility, and a profound love for creation—both in his professional work and personal pursuits.

Patrick built a distinguished career as a defense engineer, where he played a pivotal role in aerospace weapon systems intelligence. His contributions strengthened the safety and security of countless lives, reflecting his deep belief that engineering was not merely a profession but a solemn responsibility to truth, country, and future generations. This was accomplished solely by his innate passion and knowledge.

Beyond his professional achievements, Patrick was a man of endless projects and passions. He was rarely without something in the works, whether designing innovative 4x4 parts that became well-known and respected in the jeeping community or setting up his telescope to gaze at the stars in quiet admiration of the night sky.

He cherished adventures in the desert, panning for gold, collecting geodes and agate pieces and exploring military aircraft crash sites alongside his brother, finding joy in the simple wonders of the natural world. Patrick also had a deep and tender love for cats. One beloved feline companion frequently rode along with him in his truck, perching proudly on the dashboard. He once heroically rescued two cats from the remote west desert of Utah, and over the years, he helped trap and release many cats around his home, demonstrating his compassionate heart for animals in need.

Patrick lived life fully on his own terms, with integrity, intelligence, and a quiet strength that inspired those around him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Judith Conover; his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Fagen Mangkusasono (husband Henry Mangkusasono); his sons, Joshua Blair Fagen and Matthew Caleb Fagen; his grandsons, Max, Miles and Michael; and his stepdaughter, Adriane Garn Baxter and son-in-law Jeffrey Baxter.

The family extends special thanks to Jeff, Adriane, and Michael for their tireless time, dedication, and selfless support without expectation—gifts that will forever be cherished.

Patrick is also survived by his brothers, Peter Fagen, Michael Fagen, and Kelly Fagen (wife Shelly Fagen); his sisters, Linda Fagen and Colleen Fagen Conover (husband Douglas Conover); and Katie Fagen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Murvine B. and Rita Windschiltle Fagen, and by his sister, Mary Fagen Paget.

Patrick's great intelligence, steadfast support, and loving presence will be deeply and sorely missed. Our hearts ache without him, yet we find comfort in the legacy of a life well-lived—one that protected, created, explored, loved animals, and cared deeply with purpose.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a cause aligned with Patrick's values, such as engineering education programs, astronomical societies, or animal rescue organizations. Arrangements are private, in care of Lindquist Mortuaries, with love and memories shared among those who knew him best.
