Patrick Fields Obituary

Patrick Fields

September 23, 1956 - February 13, 2024

Rowland Heights - Patrick Joseph Fields died February 13, 2024, surrounded by family as he ended an 10 month battle with an aggressive brain cancer. Born September 23, 1956, at Sisters Hospital in Santa Maria to Jack McKay Fields and Deirdre Consuelo (Foxen) Fields of Los Alamos, the second of their seven children. He spent his first 5 years living on the El Roblar Ranch in Los Alamos. His family then moved to the "Little Ranch" on Telephone Road outside of Santa Maria. Pat excelled academically as he attended elementary schools in Los Alamos and Santa Maria and graduated from Isaac Miller Elementary and Isaac Fesler Jr. High. Pat attended St. Joseph High School, where he participated in the student government and was on cross country, tennis, and football teams. He was Class Valedictorian of the Class of 1974. He graduated from Allan Hancock College in 1976, UCLA in 1978, and Harvard Law School in 1981. In July 1982 Pat began his career as an attorney in the Los Angeles office of Graham & James LLP, today Squire Patton Boggs (US) LLP, and tirelessly worked on behalf of his clients for over 40 years.

All the academic and professional achievements are such a small part of Pat's life. A fellow Graham & James employee introduced Pat to the love of his life, Maribel Larracas of the Philippines. They were married on July 27, 1985, and together raised three children, Andrew, Laura Nicole, and Karen. Pat and Maribel loved travelling the world together. Pat was a devout Catholic and attended mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Rowland Heights for many years. He enjoyed music and sports, following the Los Angeles Kings hockey team and football teams of St. Joseph High, UCLA, and shouldering the painful burden that is the lot of all true Oakland Raider fans. He was a loving and supportive husband and father, a cherished brother and uncle, and a great friend to many.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Jack and Deirdre, and his sister, Cynthia Kirchoff, and beloved grandmother, Rosalie de la Torre Foxen. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Maribel, son Andrew and Hannah Sunshine (spouse), daughter Laura Nicole Nonomura and Yusuke Nonomura (spouse), along with Pat's first grandchild, Leah Nonomura, and Pat's youngest daughter, Karen Marie. A point of great pride was having his son, Andrew, join him at Squire Patton Boggs shortly after Andrew became an attorney in 2016. He is also survived by his four brothers, Jack Jr, Bill, Scott, and Greg; his sister, Andrea Perry; their spouses; and Pat's many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, March 23 at the Queen of Heaven Chapel, 2161 Fullerton Rd., Rowland Heights, California. A private Mass and Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 24 also at Queen of Heaven Chapel.

Pat and I lived on the same floor in the dormitory at UCLA. One Sunday at Mass at the Newman Center I recognized Pat from Hedrick Hall. We walked back to Hedrick together and had some breakfast. That was the beginning of a friendship that lasted well over 40 years.
