Patrick Flannery Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brewer & Sons Funeral Homes - Michels & Lundquist Chapel from Nov. 27 to Dec. 6, 2025.
Patrick Robert Flannery was the second born son to Marlene Kathryn Flannery (nee Besl) and Vernon
Huston Flannery in Cincinnati, Ohio. He and his six siblings grew up in the small rural town of Mason
where they share fond memories of a childhood well spent on the forty acre property. Fall days passing
time picking blackberries, hiking the woods (we called them 'the back 40's'), getting lost, but returning
home before dark somehow. Snow sledding in winter, summer time in the pool, and any time rowing
the Jon boat on the lake, while he provoked the Youngers with stories and tales of what might lurk in
the darkness.
That was Patrick..a jokester. His spirit jovial and fun and colorful. He was confident and practical and
his style as outrageous as his laugh; bright and happy.
In his adolescence, he was a Boy Scout and excelled as a marksman. In teenage years, he participated in
Marching Band, was in Student Council, and was a foreign exchange student to Spain. Patrick loved to
bring stray animals home; peacocks, goats, cats, and somehow, my parents tolerated his behavior.
Some would even say he was the favorite.
Patrick attended Mason High School where he met (the late) Janet Flannery (nee Hartmann), his high
school sweetheart. Upon graduation, he set off to College at Miami University and during those years,
he and Janet married. When he was accepted to the Texas Women's University, they set off for Denton,
Texas and began their family.
You read that right, by the way. Texas Women's University. Patrick was one of two men to be accepted
into the College's Occupational Therapy Program, where he graduated with honors. That was his MO;
breaking down barriers, going against the grain, challenging the norm, pushing boundaries.
Thomas Patrick and Timothy Patrick were sons to Patrick and Janet. Their fondest memories are of their
father primping for the next Gala and dancing the night away. Patrick was a terrific dancer. The boys
remember their father spending lots of time grooming their values, some of which came by involving
them in scouts, mimicking his adolescence. A week at Philmont Scout Ranch is a favorite family story.
Patrick was reliable and accountable to his boys, he was structured and timely and made it a way of life
for his family. He was a strong father and led his family fearlessly.
As the family morphed with the passing time, Tom married and moved to Germany. Many visits were
paid to Tom as Patrick loved to travel and this arrangement made it easy. Family Vacations to Disney
and a trip to the Grand Canyon all lie within the memories of Patrick.
Patrick furthered his education and worked as an Executive supporting Rehab Facilities across the
country. He was a leader in his career and his passion for his work never faltered. His commitment to
the Rehabilitation community expanded through his work with CARF (Commission on Accreditation of
Rehabilitation Facilities), where he practiced as a Surveyor supporting facilities globally. Patrick's
commitment to community was unwavering as demonstrated by his tenure with Hospice of
Texarkana/Hospice of Hope.
Patrick met and fell in love with Penelope Loosbrock, they married in May 21, 2021, set off for
his dream of life at the beach. They moved to Holiday, Florida with plans to retire and continue worldly
travels.
Patrick is preceded in death by his parents, Marlene and Vernon, and his first wife, Janet.
He is survived by his wife, Penelope Loosbrock-Flannery; sons, Tom Flannery (Anne and grandson Sion), Tim Flannery; stepsons, Patrick (Breanna) Loosbrock, Abraham Loosbrock and Christopher Cox; siblings, Michael Flannery, Noreen Grisham (Jim), Maureen Campbell, Kelly Flannery-Higgins (Alan), Shea Flannery (Dana) and Shannon Flannery-Bishop (Bo); six nephews, one niece, four niece in-laws, two great nephews and two great nieces.
Patrick will be forever in our hearts and dearly missed.
We would like to invite family and friends to wear bright colored clothing in honor of Patrick's memory. He was stylish and bold and we welcome others to be the same (even if only for a day

My thoughts and prayers go out to Patrick's families and friends. I had the opportunity to know Patrick through CARF and always enjoyed our time together. He was a great influence on many throughout his career and certainly made an impact on new surveyors with CARF along with the many organizations he touched.

I am so sorry on your loss. Patrick and I worked together at CHRISTUS St. Michael then CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth. We chuckled we couldn´t get rid of each other. He was a true rehab professional, which was displayed in all that he did. His focus on exceptional patient care and making a difference in the lives of the many he helped serve was easily witnessed. I´m certain he made a difference at so many levels for our associates, physicians, our patients and their families.

Please know he made a difference and the world is better because of his time here.
