Patrick Joseph (Wetmore) Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 24 to Oct. 25, 2022.
On October 22, 2022, local musician Patrick Joseph passed away due to complications from brain cancer. Born to Herbert and Frances Callahan Wetmore on October 21, 1952, in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, he lived a life devoted to music and his loving family. Pat is survived by his beautiful daughter Janna and his beloved grandson Trey, as well as five siblings and their spouses: Mike and Peggy, Tim, Eileen, Mary Frances and Larry, and Katy and Bill.

With Pat's dad being a Navy man, the family moved around a LOT in the 1950s and 1960s, some of the places including San Diego, Guam, and Key West and many, many more. Wherever the family went, Pat left his mark, whether that involved meeting the local firemen after some living room curtains mysteriously caught on fire or testing scientific principles, such as what happens when gasoline is added to a pool and a match is lit. He was a spirited child.

Without a doubt, however, the biggest mark he left was the musical opus of his life. He was never more alive than when he was on the stage playing to an audience. It all began one Christmas when Santa bravely brought him a drum set, and that was the spark that led to him becoming a life-long musician. Although he played in many bands in the San Antonio area, such as the Krayolas and the San Antonio Heat, his favorite group was Glass Heart. He was proud of Glass Heart and felt privileged to play with life-long friends, Chuck Van Zandt, Ken Burson, and Peter Carey. Patrick was also a well-known sound man in the music industry with his most recent job being with the Christian Family Church, which kindly worked around his health difficulties at the end of his life. This was so appreciated by Pat and his family.

Father in Heaven, thank you for sending Patrick into our lives and all the precious memories he leaves behind for his loved ones. We pray that you receive him gently into your loving arms.

Pat always made us laugh and smile. Besides being a gifted percussionist, he energized all of us who were in the Lee High School Band, always upbeat and entertaining us with his charm and wit. He would lead the bus in song on the way to football games. Usually with a "Top Ten" medley. Everyone loved him.

I met Pat in 1966 at Nimitz Junior High School and he was a blast to be around. He had a great sense of humor and an even greater sense of rhythm. Later on, after we graduated from Lee, Pat quickly taught himself guitar and became quite accomplished accomplished. He was a natural musician. When he formed his band Jasmine I got to see one of the early shows and was impressed to see him fronting the band and not behind a drum kit. I'm glad Pat was part of my life when we were all beginning to learn what life was about. Play on Pat and know you will be missed!
