Sergeant Patrick Edward Kemp (Retired) of Friendswood, Texas, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 1, 2025, at the age of 76.
Pat was born September 8, 1948, to Marjorie Josephine and John Burton Kemp, Sr., in Galveston, Texas. He attended La Marque High School and Sam Houston State University before returning home to build a life and raise a family with his "Irish Rose," Sharon Irish Kemp, his best friend and loving wife of over 50 years. Pat's family and friends take comfort in the promise of their recent joyous reunion.
Befitting a man who revered hard work and integrity, Pat chose a life of public service and dedication to his community. He worked as a welder at Union Carbide/Dow in Texas City for over 25 years, many of which were spent also working in the Galveston County Sheriff's Reserves Division. Pat later served the Sheriff's Office as a Liaison Officer at Creekside Intermediate and Clear Brook High School. He retired from the Galveston County Sheriff's Office with 33 years of total service in 2015.
Pat will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his sharp wit, and his magnetic charm. He never met a stranger and amassed a multitude of lifelong friends. He loved family celebrations, his pets, The Dallas Cowboys, Texas, World War II history, and a great story. In fact, everyone has a story to tell about Pat, but no one could paint a picture quite like he could. He loved to regale an audience with tales of his adventures and daring feats - including (allegedly) fighting a bear. Ultimately, beneath this tough image, was a man completely devoted to his beloved family, who are honored to have had the opportunity to experience life alongside him. Pat supported his family with pride in their every endeavor - from coaching his children's teams to cheering enthusiastically at every one of his grandchildren's sporting events, recitals, and performances.
Pat is survived by his daughter, Lisa McCann; son Eric (Erin) Kemp; his grandchildren, Jaron (Amber) McCann, Ashlyn (Grayson) Taylor, Elizabeth Kemp, and Evan Kemp; and great-grandchildren, Oliver Taylor, Owen Taylor, and Noah McCann. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John; son-in-law, Judson McCann; and his wife, Sharon.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 9, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmett F. Lowry Expy, Texas City, TX 77591. Funeral Services will be held at Emken-Linton on Monday, March 10, at 10:00am, with interment immediately following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas.
