Patrick J. McDonald, 94, a lifelong resident of Truman, WI, died on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at home. Pat was born on December 28, 1927, in Kendall Township to Patrick W. and Elizabeth (McKeon) McDonald. He was united in marriage to Lorna Mae Amenda on February 19, 1955, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church; where he received the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, and Marriage, and now will be laid to rest. Pat and Lorna Mae were the cemetery sextons for 30 years at Immaculate Conception Church.
Pat began his farming career with his father and brothers James, Ray, and Lawrence. In 1951 he was drafted to serve in the Korean War. He served 2 years in Germany. He was named "Soldier of the Month" while in service. Following the war, he purchased his own farm located north of the Truman church. He continued to farm here until his role as "supervisor" began. Pat was able to see his son run the farm and then his grandson.
Pat was a member of the Belmont American Legion. He and his brother Lawrence were able to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2012.
Pat and Lorna Mae enjoyed their horses, Daisy and Danny, for many years. They were members of the Belmont Saddle Club and the Iowa County Teamsters and Riders. In his retirement years, Pat enjoyed attending activities the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were participating in. He and his three brothers were known for their Irish quartet music. Pat will be missed and fondly remembered by his family. They will especially miss his "quick wit" and one-liners.
He is survived by their children, Dennis (Mary) McDonald and Mike (Denise) McDonald all of Belmont, WI; Julie (Steve Walstrum) McDonald, Dubuque, IA; Jerry (Rose) McDonald, Peyton, CO; and Tim (Nicky) McDonald, Mineral Point, WI; eleven grandchildren, Carrie (Michael) Vida, Tony (Jess) McDonald, Brian (Leah) McDonald, Katie (Steve) Sedbrook, Pam (Rick) Johnstone, Scott (Ashley) McDonald, Jeff (fiancé Alaina Reeves) McDonald, Vicki (Mitch) Webb, Ken (Liz) McDonald, Laura (Matt) Mayer, and Mandy (Andy) Dahlheimer; nineteen great-grandchildren, Collin and Alexis Vida, Ashley, Bradley, and Cora McDonald, Hailey, Landon, and Blaine McDonald, Kloe, Avvy, and Emerson Sedbrook, Phillip, Violet, and Walter Johnstone, Aspen McDonald, Carson and Sara Webb, James Mayer, Calon Dahlheimer, and two more arriving in early 2023; special nephews, Paul (Deb) McDonald, Chicago, IL; Peter (Amy) McDonald, Onalaska, WI; and Andy (Alicia) McDonald, Milwaukee, WI; sisters-in-law, Camilla McDonald, Cathy McDonald, and Jeanne Amenda; brother-in-law, Larry (Judy) Amenda; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna Mae; his parents; mother and father-in-law Edward and Idella (Rehmstedt)Amenda; brothers James, Ray, Lawrence, and Leo Francis in infancy; sisters Kathryn (James) Quinn, Anna (Joe) Donahoe, Judy (Cletus) Byrnes, Marie (Bernie) Kliebenstein, and Teresa (George) Lehner; and brother-in-law Robert Amenda. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Truman. Father Luke Syse will officiate. Burial with military rites will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 PM, Monday, October 17, 2022 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be at rosary at 3:45 PM, visitation will continue Tuesday from 9:00 – 10:00 AM.
