Patrick Joseph McDonaugh Sr, retired Chicago Police Captain, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Covenant Living in
Northbrook, Illinois. A native of Chicago, Patrick was born March 10, 1931 to the late John McDonagh and the late Eileen McDonagh, née Cawley. Patrick graduated from DePaul Academy and attended DePaul University before enlisting in the Navy and later serving in the Army during the Korean War. After the army, he joined the Chicago Police Department and rose to Assistant Deputy Superintendent rank during his forty-six year tenure before retiring as Captain in 2000.
Patrick married his beloved, the late Mary Louise, née O'Connor, in 1958. Together they raised six children in Chicago (Edison Park), IL where Patrick became the self-proclaimed "Mayor of Ottawa Ave". As a child, Patrick loved to sing in the choir, play the tuba, ice skate, and play softball. Later in life Patrick loved to dance the jitterbug with MaryLou, play traditional handball with friends, and maintain meticulous care of his lawn and landscape.
Remembering Patrick fondly are his children, Maureen (William) Harte, Patrick Jr., Kevin (Sophie), Kathleen (Mark) Wenc, and Brian (Maureen), and the late Terrence. Patrick was blessed with twelve grandchildren including Megan Altwasser, Patrick (Antonia) Altwasser, Terry (Miyuki) Harte, Daniel Harte, Patrick McDonaugh III, Anna (Enrique) De Anda, Alfred McDonaugh, Victoria McDonaugh, Adeline (Jonathan) Lavengco, Brianna (Hector) Salgado, John McDonaugh, and Jack McDonaugh. His great grandchildren include Conner Burkhardt, Memphis Kornstein, Ellie Harte, Alice Altwasser, and Emma Salgado.
Patrick's extended family includes Alice (George) Heidkamp and the late Maureen (late Paul) Kerin, John (late Joan), Eileen (Sean) McDonagh.
The family would like to extend our warmest thank you to Carolyn Manyo from Home Instead/Honor Care Agency. We are forever grateful and deeply touched by Carolyn's unconditional love, support, and care for Patrick over the years.

Park Ridge, IL 60068.
Funeral Tuesday, December 9, 2025 from Ryan-Parke Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. to Saint Juliana Parish, 7201 N Oketo Avenue,
Chicago, IL 60631 for Mass at 10:00 a.m.
Interment to follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleums,
Des Plaines, IL.
