Pat Menard, age 84, died Tuesday, September 5, 2023. He was born March 17, 1939 in Menominee to Harris and Dorothy (Mattson) Menard and graduated from Menominee High School in 1957. He joined the U.S. Air Force in early 1958 and after basic training was sent to Japan as part of a water survival school. Pat transferred to Florida in 1960 where he was an equipment specialist until his honorable discharge in December of 1961.
He went to work for L.E. Jones Co. and in 1963 was married to Karen (Nelson) Menard. In 1965 Pat, Karen and their toddler, Kris, moved to Houghton, Michigan where he enrolled at Michigan Tech University. Second daughter, Kari, arrived in his junior year. He graduated in 1969 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Pat took a job in Davenport, Iowa where he worked for Alcoa. Son, Dennis, arrived in 1970. In 1978 he began employment with Reynolds Aluminum in Louisville, KY and retired from there in 2001.
He enjoyed squirrel hunting with friends in Kentucky. He also enjoyed deer hunting with his buddies at his late brother's cabin. Bear hunting happened once here and once in Idaho. There were many camping trips with the kids and the grandkids and a lot of fishing trips for Pat and Karen. He kept busy for many years building furniture.
Pat is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Kris Menard and Kari Childs (Gary); son, Dennis Menard; granddaughters, Teresa Hammer (David) and Aidan Taylor (Jackson); and a great-granddaughter, Lucien. He is further survived by sisters, Suzanne Boivin, Ruth (Mike) Watson and Carole (Randy) Behnke.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mike.
Visitation will be at First Presbyterian Church in Menominee on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. A memorial service will follow at noon along with a luncheon.
In lieu of flowers please consider memorial donations to the Menominee Animal Shelter.
Karen wishes to thank the staff at the Aurora hospital for all of the warm and thoughtful care Pat was given and also to Unity Hospice for their caring way of making his last days as comfortable as possible.
