Daniel Patrick Riley, "Pat", of Beacon, NY, passed away on May 31, 2023.
Pat was born on October 8, 1946, in Providence, RI, to M. Frances and D. Joseph Riley. Pat attended St. John's Elementary School and graduated from Beacon High School in 1965. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1969.
After the Navy, Pat was a full-time employee of Green Fan Economizer until it closed. He then became a correction officer at Fishkill Correctional, where he achieved the rank of
sergeant. While working at the facility, Pat became part of the Color guard, on which he proudly served. After Pat's retirement he worked at the Southern Dutchess Country Club, a job he truly loved, and golfed every day, seemingly in the most fashionable attire.
Some of Pat's favorite activities included many golf trips around the United States, coaching Davey's Dogs in soccer when soccer was first introduced in Beacon, managed a Miro's softball team, and owned a cottage on Whaley Lake with several associates (Denny Meyer, Peter Donnelly, Dan McElduff and Jim (Yock) Hughes. Pat walked a minimum of 5 miles a day throughout Beacon. Pat's closest friends can certainly recall his dancing skills. He loved to dance! Pat was a member of various clubs including the LLABTOOF Club (a NY Giants Club – Pats friends all knew the love he had for the Giants), the Southern Dutchess Country Club, St. Rocco's, and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He also took pride in setting up the indoor Christmas trees at St. John's church.
Pat is survived by his sister, Jan Riley Morrell, and her husband, Joe, his nephew Joe and his wife Eileen and great nephew John, his dear brother, Rob, and wife Jane, and his niece Caitlin.
Pat had many many friends and one lifetime friend, Denny Meyer, and his wife Karen, who faithfully visited, supported, and encouraged Pat throughout his entire illness.
Finally, we would like to thank the staff at Yorktown Rehabilitation and at Pat's most recent facility, Montrose VA Hospital, for the amount of love and care that they provided.
If anyone would like to donate in Pat's memory, please contact the American Heart Association (Heart.org) or a charity of your choice.
Pat's wake will take place on Sunday, June 4, 2023, from 2 pm to 6 pm at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman St. in Beacon. A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Monday, June 5, 2023, at St. John's Church, 35 Willow St. in Beacon, followed immediately by the burial at Old St. Joachim's Cemetery on Falconer St. in Beacon.
