Patrick Shugrue Obituary

Visit the McGaffigan Family Funeral Home website to view the full obituary.

On July 21, 2025, after a 8+ known year battle with Alzheimer’s, it stole Patrick Stanley Shugrue (of Pepperell, MA) from all who loved him. Born in Lowell, MA, on January 19, 1957, to T. Dolores (Nowak) and William J Shugrue, Patrick, in his rebellious, spirited, and genius fashion, found his soulmate, Carla-Marie (Giardinella-Cushing), in their childhood neighborhood of Shaughnessy Terrace. Married in 1978, he and Carla added children, friends, and memories to life. He guided his family with wisdom, smart mouth humor, and an unwavering heart. His light will shine on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A jack-of-all-trades, Pat had a passion for fixing things and building a better life for those he loved. Crafting with care as a carpenter, adapting to new challenges as computer technology was born and evolved, and mechanically making a vehicle’s engine hum with his ear for diagnosing (a profession inspired by his time in the Army Reserves). It was Pat’s work ethic and quiet pride in a job well done that defined him. Camping, Tandem Biking, Photography, including many lunches at George’s Deli; Patrick enjoyed it right up until the disease stole his ability to.

Patrick leaves behind many who will miss his ingenuity and wise mouth humor; His soulmate, Carla-Marie, his children Lisa Marie and Cindy (Manseau) and her husband James, his grandchildren, Anistacia (Stacy), Amber, Casey James, Megan, and Matthew, his younger siblings Carole (Meehan) and Shawn Shugrue, his in-law’s Priscilla (Ullom) Gendron and Charles Giardinella Sr. and wife Elaine, his sisters-in-law Robin, Sharon, and Holly and her husband Rob and brothers-in-law Ron and his husband, Chris, Charles Jr., and Kenneth, his many nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends. Patrick’s family would like to express their gratitude to Pathways Healthcare for all the care, support, and guidance they provided through Pat’s Journey.

Both his parents predeceased him, along with his two older siblings, Susan Lebel and William J Shugrue, his mother-in-law, Theresa J Giardinella, his sister-in-law, Pamela (Howard), his brother-in-law, John (Meehan), and his granddaughter, Sabrina (Pelletier).

Patrick's wishes are to be cremated, no wake or funeral, just a Celebration of Life. All are invited to the Pepperell Community Center, 4 Hollis St., Pepperell, MA on Tuesday, November 11th from 11 am - 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local library. Pat’s genius grew through his self-teaching, which was facilitated by multiple books, manuals, and other resources from various libraries throughout the years.
