Mr. Patrick William Smith, age 66 of LaFollette passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024.
Patrick was a 1976 graduate of Campbell County High School. He was committed to higher education and earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville), and Masters from the University of Texas (Austin), both in Business Marketing. From there, he began his career as a college educator. He taught at several colleges including, St. Anselm College (Manchester, NH), Linfield University (McMinnville, OR), and the University of Virginia (Wise, VA).
Patrick was an accomplished runner and competed in major marathons all across the country including, Chicago Marathon, New York City Marathon, and the Unites States Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC. He also competed in numerous other road races in Tennessee, Texas, California, Colorado, North and South Carolina, Virginia, Minnesota, Washington, and Oregon.
He is preceded in death by Parents, Paul McCollum (Cooster) Smith and Edith (Sowder) Smith, and Infant Brother, Paul McCullum Smith, Jr.
He is survived by Wife, Dr. Rita Goins Smith, Brother, Dr. Quinn Smith and Wife, Renee, Sister, Angie Francis, Nephew, Adam Francis, Niece, Claire Francis, Great-Nephews, Boyd and Zach Francis, and several other extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at Walters Funeral Home Chapel. A Graveside Service will follow at Victory Cemetery. Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Patrick William Smith.
