Patsy Barnes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beck Funeral Home in Austin/Round Rock on Aug. 26, 2022.
Patsy Sue Barnes, age 76, passed away on July 15, 2022 after 15 years of living with Alzheimer s. She was born on August 18, 1945 in Houston, TX, to parents Woodrow and Inez (Day) Kelley. She was named after the 1930 s comedienne, Patsy Kelly, by her maternal grandmother.
She married Edward Conner in March,1963 and their daughter, Patty, was born in December of that year and their son, Charles was born in March, 1965. Patsy and Ed were stationed in Biloxi, MS at the time of both births. During her 14-year marriage to Ed, Patsy enjoyed living in New York, Germany, Houston, and Austin, Texas.
After a brief courtship, Patsy married Loyd Barnes in June, 1977. They had been married 22 years when Loyd passed away in May, 1999. Patsy and Loyd co-owned Loyd s Pit BBQ until they retired in 1984 and moved to Stigler, Oklahoma. There, they owned and managed numerous rental properties and spent most of their free time fishing, a favorite pastime of Patsy s. She was also very involved in her church, First Baptist of Stigler, where she taught Sunday school, organized Vacation Bible School each year, and attended annual Women s Retreats where she courageously and proudly shared her personal story, which included coping with trauma and mental health struggles.
Patsy s personal interests included storytelling, world news, poetry, UT girls basketball, baseball, and cleaning. Even in her memory care unit, the attendants quickly discovered that she was happiest when she was helping others and cleaning. Eager for her to feel useful and happy, they regularly allowed her to dust, vacuum, and sort laundry. Having managed restaurants, she would not eat until she had participated in meal preparations, and everyone had been served. The attendants understood that if they allowed her to help set tables or simply prepare napkins, she would joyfully participate in the meal. Patsy s family is grateful to the staff of Brookdale Round Rock for their respectful and compassionate care.
Patsy s greatest loves were her children, grandsons, great grandchildren, and the family fur babies. She cherished days spent with Kaja and Kayla following her around the house as she cleaned and talked to them. She enjoyed being in nature with her grandsons, watching her great grandchildren swim, and being silly and laughing with her sisters.
Patsy is survived by her daughter, Patty Conner and her husband, John Carstedt; her son, Charles Conner and his wife, Shellie; her grandsons, Charles (Nicole), Cody (Ashley), and Chad; great grandchildren, Hailey, Isaac, Scarlett, Zoe, and Skylar. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Shirley (Glenn), Betty, Ricky, Mark, Bruce, and Inez (Alan).
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
