Patsy Burnell Obituary

Patsy Burnell

August 1, 1937 - June 16, 2025

Patsy Ann Burnell (MacLennan), age 87, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born on August 1, 1937, in Waterloo, Iowa, Patsy lived a life rooted in faith, family, and friendship.

Patsy was the beloved wife of Jim Burnell for 69 years, a marriage that stood as a testament to enduring love and devotion. In recent years, Jim lovingly cared for her with unwavering dedication, embodying the sacred vow of "until death do us part." Together they built a home filled with warmth and laughter, raising two children who carry forward her legacy of compassion and generosity.

She was a devoted mother to Steve Burnell and Suzanne "Suzi" Anderson. Patsy instilled in them the values of love, giving, and the importance of family. Patsy also has an "adopted" son, David Lonergan (Gia)

Though she had two biological children and three biological grandchildren whom she adored deeply, Patsy's nurturing spirit extended far beyond bloodlines. Many knew her as Mom B., Aunt Pat, Grandma Pat, titles given by those whose lives she touched with kindness and care. Her home was always open; her heart even more so.

Patsy's life revolved around family. She found joy in gathering loved ones around the dinner table and treasured every moment spent together. She didn't pursue traditional hobbies because for her, family was both passion and pastime. She was a giver at heart, always attentive to others' needs and quick to offer comfort or support.

Her circle of love extended into lifelong friendships as well. The "Potluck Girls," friends since high school days in Waterloo, remained close companions for over six decades. They celebrated milestones together and watched each other's families grow; a rare bond that brought Patsy immense joy throughout her life.

Faith played a central role in Patsy's journey. She was an active member of Grace Brethren Church in Waterloo, Iowa, a place where she worshipped wholeheartedly and served her church family with devotion. Her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ guided her actions and gave her strength through all seasons of life.

Patsy is survived by her loving husband, Jim; son, Steve (Genie) Burnell; daughter, Suzi (Rick) Anderson; grandchildren, Brody Burnell, Megan Anderson and Eli Anderson; brothers, Edwin MacLennan, Dennis MacLennan and Dean Long; sisters, Dee Anne Wuebker, Caroline Krabill, Susan Fendt; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Dewey MacLennan; mother, Thelma Viola MacLennan; brothers, James McLennan, Robert McDonald, Douglas MacLennan; and sister, Phyllis Majewski.

To those who knew her, Patsy leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and selfless giving. Her memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to be part of her world.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
