Patsy Hittson, beloved wife of Gary Hittson for 61 years, passed peacefully at Westminster Village, with her family by her side. Thanks to the outpouring love from the staff, she was comforted and cared for in her final days with grace and dignity. Patsy and Gary have resided the same home located in Muncie their entire marriage. She was born on July 24, 1944 in Alexandria a daughter of the late Paul and Gladys (Wellington) Duncan.
Patsy was a 1962 graduate of Yorktown High School. For 40 years, Patsy worked at Lowery’s Candies, where she mastered every aspect of the shop. She brought dedication, skill, and a kind heart to everything she did.
She lived for the adventure of the open road. Alongside Gary, she explored 48 states and Canada—traveling in a pop-up camper with their kids, in vans, RVs, and even camping in the back of a pickup; their favorite was a custom-built van Gary designed just for her, perfect for boondocking everywhere from casinos and Walmart parking lots to peaceful state parks.
Patsy loved the serenity of the family lake cabin, especially watching Gary fish from his kayak—and one summer, even gave kayaking a try herself.
A 14-year cancer survivor, Patsy faced treatments with strength, grace, and quiet determination. The outpouring of support through #PrayersForPatsy was a testament to how deeply she was loved and how many lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Hittson; her son, Ken (Tina) Hittson; her daughter, Paula (Dan) Mense; and her three cherished granddaughters, Samantha Hittson, Dani Mense and Emily Mense. She also leaves behind her brother, Charles (Marilyn) Duncan; her sister, Norma Bickel, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Smith.
Her love, strength, and warmth live on in every heart she touched.
