She was born on August 4th, 1941, in Holden MO, to Francis Leroy Austin and Nellie Realia Cummins. As the youngest of four children, Patsy was a cherished daughter and sister, growing up surrounded by love and faith.

Patsy and her husband, Merle, shared a passion for farming, raising sheep whose wool she would spin into yarn. She was an active member of the Spinner's Guild and participated in demonstrations at Missouri Town and other historical events, sharing her craft and love of traditional fiber arts with others.
