My Momma gave the best hugs.
Not just warm-but soul-deep, rib-squeezing, heart-steadying hugs.
She´d say "I love you" every time, and it never felt like filler.
It landed. It mattered. I felt it.
She taught me kindness not through lectures, but through living.
Pat smiled at strangers like they were old friends.
She couldn´t pass a baby without being drawn in-
a magnet for joy, a natural with children.
She was a fun Mom, but she was a superhero Gramma.
I keep watching videos of her on the playground with Emily and Oliver.
She´d overdo it-slide after slide, spin after spin-
and wake up sore, but never sorry.
To her, a stiff back was a small price for laughter.
She´d do it again. And again. And again.
Because love, to Mom, was motion.
It was showing up. It was pushing the merry-go-round
even when her knees ached.
It was knowing the names of trees,
the uses of herbs,
the quiet healing in flowers and home remedies.
She taught me how to be a good human.
Not by telling me-by being one.
And now, with a broken, trembling heart,
I say: every rough day is worth it.
Because she lives on in us.
In every act of kindness.
In every hug that says "I love you" and means it.
In every child´s laughter echoing down a slide.
She lives on, we carry her in with us in the way we love, the way we show up, and the way we smile at strangers.
