Patsy Pedersen Obituary

Patsy Ellen "Pat" Pedersen (née Short), age 80, of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away on September 12, 2025.

Born on October 29, 1944, in Maquoketa, Iowa, Pat was one of twelve children born to Frank and Ruby Short. She graduated from Monmouth High School in 1962 and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1954. Her faith remained central throughout her life, and she actively shared the Bible's teachings with others.

On February 5, 1966, Pat married William Pedersen. Together they shared nearly sixty years of marriage marked by devotion and shared purpose. In 1968, they spent seven months at the Watchtower Facility in Wallkill, New York-an experience they cherished.

Pat found her greatest joy in caring for her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband William; daughter JoEllen (Michael) Robinson and granddaughter Emily; son Daniel Pedersen; daughter Aimee Carl and grandson Oliver. She is also survived by siblings Mary (Donald) Mitchell, Robert "Wayne" (Christy) Short, Susan Bodenhofer, Lois Short, and Mark (Barbara) Short; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Roger "Earl" (Marion) Short, Frank "David" (Louisa) Short, Peggy "Alice" (Arnold) Brown, Darlene (Merlin) Wulf, Charles "Bill" Short, and Dolan Bodenhofer.

Pat maintained a warm home filled with love and a well-tended garden. She nurtured strong bonds with her family and found fulfillment in both her spiritual service and family life.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1800 Saint Peters Howell Rd., Missouri 63376.

Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

My Momma gave the best hugs.
Not just warm-but soul-deep, rib-squeezing, heart-steadying hugs.
She´d say "I love you" every time, and it never felt like filler.
It landed. It mattered. I felt it.

She taught me kindness not through lectures, but through living.
Pat smiled at strangers like they were old friends.
She couldn´t pass a baby without being drawn in-
a magnet for joy, a natural with children.
She was a fun Mom, but she was a superhero Gramma.

I keep watching videos of her on the playground with Emily and Oliver.
She´d overdo it-slide after slide, spin after spin-
and wake up sore, but never sorry.
To her, a stiff back was a small price for laughter.
She´d do it again. And again. And again.

Because love, to Mom, was motion.
It was showing up. It was pushing the merry-go-round
even when her knees ached.
It was knowing the names of trees,
the uses of herbs,
the quiet healing in flowers and home remedies.

She taught me how to be a good human.
Not by telling me-by being one.

And now, with a broken, trembling heart,
I say: every rough day is worth it.
Because she lives on in us.
In every act of kindness.
In every hug that says "I love you" and means it.
In every child´s laughter echoing down a slide.

She lives on, we carry her in with us in the way we love, the way we show up, and the way we smile at strangers.
