PATSY STEED
Henderson, TN: Patsy Ann Stewart Steed, age 93, passed away December 29, 2025, at her home.
She was born September 10, 1932, in Henderson, the daughter of the late Richard William and Virginia McCorkle Stewart. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1950 and attended U.T. Martin and graduated from University of Tennessee with her teaching degree. She later received a master's degree from Memphis State University.
She married Jim Steed in 1954, and they made their home in Henderson. Mr. Steed preceded her in death in August 2020.
She taught school at Trimble, Tennessee for a year, then Chester County High School where she taught, home economics and sciences. She also taught at East Chester Elementary and retired from West Chester Elementary, after teaching for thirty-three years.
She was a member of the National Education Association and the Chester County Retired Teachers Association, where she served in many of its offices.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Henderson.
Mrs. Steed is survived by two sons, James Richard Steed (Alesia) of Bethel Springs and John Thomas Steed (Katherine) of Knoxville and two daughters, Susan Steed Winn (Edward) of Thompson Station and Jeannie Steed Greathouse (Jeff) of Richmond, KY; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard W. Stewart of Jacksonville, FL and Kenneth Thomas Stewart of Collierville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, John W. Stewart and a sister, Peggy Stewart McConnell and a great grandchild Caleb Winn.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 2nd at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Richard Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Henderson City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM service time Friday.
