Paul Eugene Achatz, 71, passed away on October 8, 2023, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on August 19, 1952, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Milton E. and Bertha (Birzer) Achatz.
A lifetime Barton County resident, Paul was a truck driver during his working years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood, also attending mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend, Knights of Columbus, and SRCA Dragstrip. Paul enjoyed restoring classic cars and working in his yard and garden. He most loved doing things for his children and grandchildren, and spending time with family.
Survivors include a son, Scott Achatz of Johnstown, Ohio; a daughter, Kristi Oetken and her husband, John, of Great Bend; two grandchildren, Laci Oetken and Kaden Achatz; three brothers, John Achatz and his wife, Bonnie, of Wichita, Kansas, Charlie Achatz and his wife, Barb, of Raymore, Missouri, and Gerald Achatz and his wife, Glenna, of Great Bend, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Lester Achatz.
Cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Lakin Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood, Kansas, with Father Terrance Klein presiding. Memorials have been designated to St. Joseph Catholic Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
