I met Paul in 1980 through my dad Marshall "Slim" Martin who was working for him at that time when visiting from Portland Oregon for July 4th celebration with my family. The engine in my car literally exploded while on my way to Cle Elum and Paul was very helpful in getting me into another vehicle. To the family,SO SORRY for your loss.

The best memories of Paul are that every time I saw him he always had a big smile on his face. So glad to have known him.

Knowing the pain of this loss from my own recent experience, I can only imagine what your family is going through. I had made plans with Paul the week before to visit Ellensburg on my annual trek through the NW to visit friends and family. What a terrible shock for all of us. Our prayers are with you daily. I am only sorry that I cannot join in the celebration of his life on Friday. God Bless you and keep you through this difficult time.

When Kathy and I moved back to Ellensburg in 1980 to take over the Thayer-Case Real Estate Company I asked my father who were the business leaders in Ellensburg that made a difference. Among the handful of names given Paul Alderman was included. That didn´t surprise me because having worked in real estate in Yakima I had dealt with Lou Alderman, a major and successful developer and agent. As an owner of a business in Ellensburg I needed all the advice and encouragement that I could get. Weekly breakfast meetings with Paul and a couple of other successful business friends were critical in decisions I was making. These guys didn´t have to take their time to chat with me about tips for a successful operation but here were men who were wealth creators that weren´t given their businesses. When I decided to run for the state house of representatives in 1990 I asked Paul to be my campaign chairman, as if he had nothing else to do. He agreed after telling me that I was nuts and that I would ruin my business by the diversion of attention. He was, of course, correct. I lost the race and eventually, my company. Self-made men like Paul Alderman don´t come along very often and for those of us who knew him and counted him a friend the loss is substantial. Our comfort is in the family he left behind who were a critical part of his resounding success.

Paul and I grew up very close. Their family was about a mile away from ours and we spent much time with them. I remember a lot of "Fox and geese" in the snow. I remember going through all his baseball cards and picking our favorites. We were in the same class all through school. I will sure miss him. My love and condolences to Paula and the family.

Paul certainly did many wonderful things in his life. But for me, the very best thing he and Paula did was raise a wonderful son, Brock, who has graced our family with love and a constant mindfulness in appreciating the little things. Paul's legacy lives on in our family. I am thankful for that. God bless him.

Paul was a legacy and mentor in Kittitas County. He had always supported the local youth as well as many other organizations. He would never walk by without smiling and saying Hello. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
