Paul Bruxelles Obituary

Published by Chandler Funeral Homes & Crematory - Wilmington on Feb. 24, 2012.
Paul Joseph Bruxelles, age 53, of Hockessin, Delaware, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2012, after a courageous battle with liver disease. Paul was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late Gregory and Mary Bruxelles. He was a 1976 graduate of Salesianum School, where he played football and was selected to the All-State and Blue-Gold all-star teams. Paul went on to graduate from Lehigh University in 1980 with a degree in Finance. While at Lehigh, Paul played football for four years, and was a member of the 1977 Division II National Championship team. He was also a member of Chi Psi Fraternity. Paul then earned an MBA from Penn State University in 1984, and joined IBM, where he worked for twenty-seven years, most recently as a Director for Healthcare Growth Initiatives. He was a board member of the PSU Smeal College of Business Alumni Society, an organization that mentors graduate and undergraduate business students. Paul was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He had numerous interests and hobbies: cooking, reading about history and aircraft, following college football, and vacationing at the Jersey Shore. However, his greatest joy came from time spent with his wife, Michele, supporting their two daughters, Annie and Katie, in their many academic, athletic, and musical activities. He was a profoundly loving husband and father and a dear friend to many. Paul is predeceased by his parents, Gregory and Mary Bruxelles. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Michele E.; two daughters, Annie and Katie; brother, Gregory M. Bruxelles and his wife Gina, of Hockessin, DE; sister, Mary Bruxelles, of Wilmington, DE; aunt, Gloria Bruxelles, of Winthrop, MA; niece, Denise Bruxelles, and her husband Edward, of New York, NY; nephew, Mark Bruxelles, of Wilmington, DE, and many, many friends. Paul's family wishes to thank the entire staff at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for their outstanding care and support. Friends are invited to attend a viewing on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE, 19707 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at 10:30 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment will follow at All Saint's Cemetery, Wilmington, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The American Liver Foundation at www.liverfoundation.org.

Paul is remembered today as a truly kind and gracious man. He one of the nicest people I have ever met. Paul, John Riper, Jack Vaile and Ted Kobus used to do so much together. So many years and fond memories working and playing softball with these fine gentlemen. Truly a blessing. May you rest in peace and continue to watch over your family and friends.

To The Bruxelles Family:
I just heard about your loss and am so sorry to hear about it. Paul and I would usually sit close to each other due to our last names beginning with a "B" at some of our classes at Sallies. He had a great sense of humor. One of my memories was our senior prom, where Paul, Kevin Conlin, Mark McCool and our prom dates came over to my house before the senior prom. My heart and thoughts go out to all of you. Sincerely, Ed Berkowitz

To the Bruxelles Family: I was saddened to hear the news about Paul. He was a mentor to me when I was college co-op working at IBM. Working with Paul was one of the best situations a student could ask for to prepare for their future. He showed trust in me and provided unique opportunities to work with his clients. 26 years later I can still look back and appreciate the example he set. He was a true professional and a great guy. My deepest sympathies.

Dear Michele, Annie and Katie -

Our sincerest condolences to you. I know how Paul loved you so much. His love will remain with you. May he rest with our Lord in peace.

My memories of the times with Paul could take many paragraphs. Having gone to grade school (St. Mary Magdalen) and High School (Salesianum, Class of 1976) with Paul, I truly know what a great person he was and is. I knew his parents well and saw how they were rasing a Catholic gentleman. I was so fortunate to be called a friend and to call him my friend. He exemplified Christian values.

May the Angels and Saints welcome him into paradise with our Lord, Jesus Christ. As St. Thomas More said, "May we all merrily meet in heaven."

I met Paul the day he joined IBM and had the privilege to work with him in Delaware. Words are inadequate to express what a great person Paul was; never more so than in this case. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My condolences to the Bruxelles family as God needed Paul in heaven.

I have never met a more genuine person than Paul. From my first day in IBM in 1984, Paul welcomed me to the team and continued to be a mentor throughout my career. Every single one of Paul's clients loved him and it was evident to me he was destine for greater things. There was no surprise when year after year Paul was awarded or promoted, as he was a true leader. Paul spoke often of his family and it was obvious how much loved them.

I will miss my friend, colleague and mentor. However, our loss is God's gain and Paul will forever live in the many people he touched.

Michelle and family,
It is with a heavy heart I add
these thoughts. As a fellow F.O.O.L. ( Fraternal Order of Offensive Linemen ) it is always sad when one of ours moves onto greener grass. Paul was a wonderful man; hard working, always striving for greatness, jovial, and able to keep things in perspective. It was my pleasure to have known him and been a teammate with him.

As we all would say,"# 55 in your program, number 1 in your heart, Paul Bruxelles!!"

May God Bless his soul as Paul blessed ours!!

Paul was always the epitome of class and character. He and I had many discussions about business, but he always included the bigger picture, the true meaning of leadership and the importance of values. Paul's face would light up when he'd talk about his wife and his daughters -- which was frequently. It was clear that Paul knew what was important in life.
