Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mountain Memorial Funeral Home on Dec. 2, 2025.
Paul Chowanec Sr., 80, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away November 28, 2025, after bravely battling Parkinson's Disease Dementia.

He was born December 1, 1944 in South Milwaukee, WI to the late John and Mary Chowanec.

Paul is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith (Smith) Chowanec, son Paul Jr. (Kelly) Chowanec of Colorado Springs, CO and

step-daughter Kathy (Roger) Nondorf of Highland, WI.

He is also survived by brothers Robert Chowanec and John Chowanec, Jr., sisters Ann Thompson and Theresa Hofacker, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, brother Walter Chowanec, sister-in-law Shirley Chowanec, brothers-in-law Dennis Thompson and Lyle Hofacker.

Paul went to Holy Family Grade School and graduated from Cudahy High School in 1962. After graduation, Paul worked in the printing trade for many years before he and Judy ventured into the apple orchard business when they purchased Valley View Orchard in Sparta, WI. They sold the orchard in 1984 and went on the road, becoming snowbirds, but returned to Wisconsin each spring for 12 years to work at Shefelbine Orchards.

In 1996, they gave up the snow-birding life to settle in Las Vegas, NV.

Upon retirement, in 2013, they moved to Florissant, CO where they created and enjoyed a true mountain retreat.

Paul had a soft heart and was kind to both friends and strangers. He was a hard worker, had a strong work ethic and was willing to try any new adventure. He will be missed.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Compassus Hospice as well as family and friends who helped care for Paul.

A graveside service and burial will be held at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, 997 Teller County Rd 1, in Cripple Creek, CO on Friday, December 5th, 2025 at noon.
