Mr. Paul E. Daniel, Sr., 84, of Durham, North Carolina peacefully passed away at his home on Friday, August 23, 2024. He was born on September 14, 1939, in Summerfield, NC to the late James and Beatrice Walker Daniel.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Daniel is preceded in death by his brothers, Monroe Daniel, Jimmy Daniel and Ralph Daniel; sisters, Carrie Pegram and Shirley Seagroves.
Mr. Daniel proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Public Service Gas Company as a Service Technician after 36 years of dedicated work. Following his retirement, he drove the School Bus for Durham County Schools for 12 years where he was Driver of the Year 2011-2012. Mr. Daniel attended First Love Community Church in Hillsborough, NC.
Paul loved playing Modified Pitch Softball. He was a pitcher and played for over 30 years. Paul played locally in a regular league but also played in weekend tournaments. Once he and some friends went to New York to see Jim “Catfish” Hunter, pitcher for the Yankees, and afterwards was given the nickname “Catfish”. He will be remembered as a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and a dear friend to many.
Mr. Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Brenda McLean Daniel; son, Eddie Daniel (Stacy Baxley); daughter, Teresa Daniel; brother, Tommy Daniel (Cheryl); sister, Henrietta Dean; sister-in-law, Hazel Daniel; grandchildren, Brandon Daniel (Anna), Tim Daniel and Grayson Daniel; great grandchildren, Timothy James Daniel, Liam Daniel and DJ Sanchez and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at First Love Community Church, 512 US Highway 70 East, Hillsborough, NC 27278. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham, NC. Pastor Greg Long will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 A.M. until 12:50 P.M.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Ray Scott, Paul Scott, Herschel Turnage, Kevin Scott, Charles Bonham and Tommy Tooley.
For those who wish to come by and pay their respects and sign the book at Hudson Funeral Home, may do so on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made in Paul’s memory to First Love Community Church, US -70, Hillsborough, NC 27278.
