Paul Manning Dorman II, 86, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at his residence in Greer, South Carolina. He was born on January 12, 1938, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the late Paul M. Dorman I and Lily Mae Cox Dorman. Paul led a remarkable life filled with valuable contributions and cherished moments.
Paul attended Fairforest High school, where he was a drum major of the high school band, he later graduated from Wofford College with a bachelor’s degree in business management. After school, Paul entered the United States Army, where he was a part of the 82nd Airborne. He successfully completed 82 jumps during his military service, demonstrating his courage in the face of challenges.
A man of many talents and interests, he had a passion for storytelling and often delighted others by dressing up as Santa Claus during the festive Christmas season. Paul was also an avid golfer, he enjoyed square dancing, and playing the drums particularly the snare and jazz drum. Paul also had a love for animals, particularly cats and dogs. Among his proudest accomplishments was his marriage to Lydia for 11 years, his dedication to his membership at Apalache Baptist Church for 15 years as well as serving as a deacon and serving as the President of the Greer Country Club.
Paul is survived by his loving wife;Lydia F. Dorman ; sons;Michael D. Taylor, John W. Taylor (Jennifer)a daughter; Amanda M. Taylor Waldrop ,6 Grandchildren; Allen Summers , Allison Summers, Corey Taylor, Maigen James (Chase) , Sarah Taylor, Emily Taylor, 2 Great-Grandchildren; Harrison Marioneaux and Rhyder McMurray ; a sister; Diane Dorman. Williamson (Dan); a nephew Matthew Dorman (Mimi); 5 nieces; Karen Dorman. Reynolds (Rick), Jill Dorman Obenchain (John), Erin Dorman Whittle (Allen),and Kelly Williamson Herman(Christopher)Candace Williamson Steude(Chris),and a host of loving cats. Paul was predeceased by his parents; father Paul Manning Dorman I, mother Lily Mae Cox Dorman, and 2 brothers; George E. Dorman and Benjamin H. Dorman.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday July 31, 2024, at Apalache Baptist Church 1915 Gap Creek Road Greer, SC 29651. Visitation will begin 11:30 am – 12:30 pm, Funeral service will follow from 12:30pm- 1:30 pm. Burial will take place at 2:00 pm at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road Spartanburg, SC 29307. Memorials may be made in honor of Paul to Apalache Baptist Church.
