Paul was in most of my classes, through grade school, at Ichabod; our parents were friends for years. I was the tallest guy in the class, but I always felt small when he was around. It is funny how memories go......Paul was one of those rare people who always greeted you with a genuine, caring, smile. He was also the strongest guy I ever knew, likely due to growing up on the farm; I'll never forget the day I encountered him at the Valatie car wash; he wanted to wash the mud off the pickup he drove in, but there was a racing motor, sitting on a cradle in the bed; he asked if I could grab the cradle, and place it on the ground, outside the bay....he then reached over into the bed and literally picked up the engine.....I was so stunned, I just stood there, gaping at him, as he held the engine in his arms....after a moment, he asked if I would be able to move the wooden frame.....I quickly moved it, after which he lowered the engine onto it......I asked him how much it weighed....enough, he said, with a smile. He was a rare soul, and will be missed by many.
