Beaufort, South Carolina - Paul Hartwell Ferguson, Sr., 89, husband of Barbara Eunice Ferguson of Summerville, S.C., died Sunday, October 6, 2024 in Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, S.C.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 11:00am in Beaufort Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Ferguson was born on July 3, 1935 in Sheldon, S.C. He is the son of the late Jake Ferguson and Ivy Gooding Ferguson.
Paul started a successful career in insurance first with Life & Casualty of Tennessee, and later he started his own "scratch" insurance agency in Charleston, S.C. Paul became an exclusive agent for Nationwide Insurance in 1981, and his son and daughter-in-law continue to steward the agency that Paul founded over 40 years ago.
Paul is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara Eunice Ferguson. He was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Cindy Jones. He leaves behind one son, Hardy Ferguson (Joelle); his son-in-law, Steven Jones; three grandchildren, Mark Jones (Hayley), Blake Ferguson (Renee), Michael Jones (Tori); and one great-granddaughter on the way, as well as his sister-in-law, Connie Nunes; and his sister-in-law, Marilou Kelemen, and her husband, Dennis, who was like a brother to him. Paul was also preceded in death by his 10 brothers and sisters, William, Everett, Beulah, Arnold, Rebecca, James, Mary, Clayton, Joe, and Rollie. Paul also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
Paul had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus, and his sole desire and hope for his family is that they would come to know the Lord themselves, and he lived his life in such a way that always pointed them to Jesus. Paul had no greater joy than to know that his children and their spouses, and all of his grandchildren were themselves walking with the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Samaritan's Purse.
