Paul Foster Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J.S. Pelkey and Son Funeral Home on Oct. 24, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Paul Edward Foster, a proud Veteran, 86, of York, Maine, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on October 23, 2025. Paul was born on November 5, 1938, in Kittery, Maine, the son of George Clarence Foster and Annie Cotton.

Paul graduated from Traip Academy in 1957 and New Hampshire College in 1977 with a B.S. in Business.

Paul joined the U.S. Air Force in 1958 and served until honorably discharged in 1962. He also joined the U.S. Naval Reserves as a Seabee in 1972 and served until honorably discharged as Utilitiesman Chief in 1992. During his time with the Seabees, Paul's construction battalion worked in Panama, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and throughout the U.S.

Paul married Patricia Irene Phinney on April 14, 1958, in York, Maine. They were married for 50 years and had two daughters and one grandson and enjoyed a life together in their home in York, Maine, until Paul was widowed on April 14, 2014.

After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force, Paul worked as a Pipe Fitter and in Planning and Estimating at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until retirement. After which he continued to work as a school bus driver for the York Schools and then as the handyman for Hillcrest resort in Ogunguit, Maine.

Paul especially enjoyed his 50 plus years as a leading member of St. Aspinquid lodge in York, Maine, activities with the Grand Lodge of Maine, and his tenure with his Seabees construction battalion. He was always working on projects around the home and believed in keeping himself busy both physically and mentally.

One of Paul's favorite past times was hosting an annual summer party in his backyard with food and music for friends and family. Plus, hosting Christmas Eve and New Year's Day parties. Gathering with friends and family had special meaning for Paul. He took great pride in his home and enjoyed sharing it with those that he cared about. Paul did the crossword puzzle every afternoon and kept his mind sharp with varied reading materials, plus creative projects at home. Staying active, especially ice skating and other outdoor pursuits, gave him a wonderful quality of life.

Remaining to cherish Paul's memory are children, Teresa Irene Foster and Paula Jean Foster; grandchildren, Zachary Paul Foster; brother, Carl Foster and wife Shirley; sisters, Barbara Turner, Priscilla Newton and husband Boyd, Diane Foster; and 20 nieces and nephews.

Preceding Paul in death are spouse, Patricia Irene Phinney; Parents, George Clarence Foster and Annie Cotton; Siblings, George Foster, Arnold Foster, Winnifred Foster, and nephews, Samuel Pendleton, Jr., Randall Turner, and Carl Foster, Jr.
