Beloved father, grandfather, and friend, Paul David Giardino ("Big Paul"), 68, of Franklin, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Paul's gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and warm heart left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Born in Boston to the late John and Pauline (Reid) Giardino, Paul was a member of the Franklin HS class of 1974 and joined the Army in 1975.
Paul was predeceased by his brother John "Dino" A. Giardino, Jr. of Franklin, who passed away in August 2024.
He is survived by seven siblings: Dawn Marie Giardino of Brockport, NY; Francis Giardino and his husband David Robinson of Plymouth; Bettiann Cardoza and her husband Tom of North Grosvenor Dale, CT; Michael Giardino and his wife Carol of Franklin; Peter Giardino of Franklin; Mary Huling and her husband Jim of Woonsocket, RI; and Gregory Giardino and his wife Patricia of Franklin.
Paul was a true outdoorsman, finding joy and peace in the simplicity of nature. Whether camping under the stars, hiking wooded trails, or gathering around a glowing campfire, he found solace in the great outdoors. He also deeply valued his time with family.
During his many years of marriage to Sandra (Nye) Giardino of Franklin, Paul built a life of adventure, love, and enduring memories. Together, they raised three children: Lianne Chelman and her husband Evan of Franklin, Sarah Ostler and her husband Doug of Norfolk, and Paul David "Little Paul" Giardino Jr. of Franklin. Paul instilled in his children the values of kindness, resilience, and a profound appreciation for life's simple pleasures.
Paul's role as a grandfather to Aleck, Gia, Maxton, and Eleanor, brought him joy. Whether teaching them cribbage, fishing in local ponds, or simply sharing stories, he cherished every moment spent with them. Paul was not just a devoted "Grampa" but also a beloved uncle to over 40 nieces and nephews.
Whether playing volleyball, diving into pools, or offering a ride to anyone who needed one, he was a constant source of fun, encouragement, love, and caregiving. His steady presence and gentle humor inspired all who had the privilege of being part of his life.
Paul's legacy is one of love, family, and an unshakable appreciation for life's small but meaningful joys. His memory lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his influence will be felt for generations to come.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Paul's memory to Crossroads Clubhouse 11 Williams Street, Hopedale, MA 01747 or the Franklin Food Pantry 341 West Central Street, Franklin, MA 02038.
A private celebration of his remarkable life will be held in the spring.
