Paul G. (Buddy) Haynes, 74, of Crestwood, IL was called home on October 24, 2025. Paul was born in Salem, NJ to Paul and Dorothy (Collier) Haynes.
Upon graduation of Pennsville Memorial High School Class of 1969, Paul attended Florida Institute of Technology where he received his associate degree in Oceanography. In 1971 he was drafted into the Army and served as a Military Policeman. Following his military service, Paul discovered his passion for woodworking and joined the Carpenter/Millwright Local 542. His exceptional skills and strong work ethic led him to travel widely for union work. His career eventually brought him to the Midwest, where he became an Engineer for General Electric and most importantly, met his love, Linda.
When Paul wasn't creating in his shop, he was planning, cooking and preparing for the next party or holiday gathering. He loved bringing family and friends together–cherishing every moment spent in laughter and celebration. He enjoyed traveling, delighting in the chance to see familiar faces, create new memories, and reminisce about old ones.
Paul leaves behind a beautiful legacy of kindness, love and selflessness that will live on through all that knew him. He was surrounded by love ones as he peacefully slipped away and was welcomed at Heaven's gates, where his spirit will continue to inspire us. Paul always said he believed God's purpose for him on earth was "to help as many people as possible" and Paul absolutely fulfilled that. He was a shining example of a life well lived–his purpose-driven existence was a testament to the profound impact one person can have. His pride and devotion to his family were unwavering and his grandchildren were a constant source of joy and laughter. We are so honored, grateful, and blessed for all the beautiful memories we have all shared with Paul. We will continue to celebrate his life and awesome legacy of love and service.
He is survived by his his loving wife, Linda Nielsen-Haynes; children Brian Nielsen (Megan), Kristine Nielsen-Lombardi (Brendon); and cherished grandchildren, Tori and Matthew Nielsen, Kristopher, Jonny, Jaxon and Julie Lombardi.
Paul will also be fondly missed by his siblings: Dale Haynes (Tracey), Danny Hall (Danny), Charlie Williams all of Pennsville, NJ; Marcia Percy (Richard) of Sebring, FL; Deb Meyer, Raymond Meyer (Peggy), Bob Meyer (Nancy), Sandy Metzger (Rick) all of Chicago, IL; nieces and nephews: Sommer, Taylor (Salvatore), Lori, Megan, Ryan (Zena), Richard, Lorie (Mike), Michelle (Jorge), Ray, Jessie (Steve), Jenny (Brian), Ryan, Jenny, Nicole, James, Danny (Monica) Tommy (Leslie), Laura (Scott), Sara (Addison); and many others that valued his friendship.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Martha Faye Haynes; sister Marie Williams; sister-in-law Maryellen Haynes; nephew Jesse Haynes; and niece Lakota Tighe.
We invite all that knew and loved Paul to join us for a visitation on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Becvar & Son Funeral Home, 5539 W. 127th Street, Crestwood, IL 60418 and service on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 5536 W. 131st Street, Crestwood, IL 60418.
