Paul Anthony Hipschman of Vermillion, SD, passed away Saturday, March 7th, 2026, at the Care Center in Vermillion, SD. Services will be held at a later date.

Paul was born on August 2, 1942, in Salem, SD to Albert and Hazel (Masters) Hipschman. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Salem and the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.

Paul loved adventure, travel, the mountains, and the outdoors. After graduating from St. Thomas, he moved to CO where he worked for several ski resorts and hotels. In 1979, Paul and his sister, Mary, purchased Summit Grocery, where Paul worked for five years before feeling the pull back to CO. It was there that he met Sandra Harman, his longtime life partner and together they made their home on a hobby farm in Fruita, CO. Paul spent much of his life enjoying hunting, fishing, and golfing. He loved animals and over the years shared his life with many beloved pets. He enjoyed spending time with family. Paul will be remembered by his many friends and family for his kindness, quick wit, and sense of humor.

Paul is survived by his nieces and nephews: Tom & Diane Hipschman of Annapolis, MD, Beth (Gapp) & Randy Hills, of Summit, SD, Steve Gapp of Vermillion, SD, Tim & Andrea Gapp, of Summit, SD, Susan (Gapp) & Gary Cheeseman of Vermillion, SD, Dan Gapp & Allan Goerlich, of San Diego, CA, Barrett & Paula Gapp, of Brookings, SD, Amy (Gapp) Askew & Darin Gottman, of Vermillion, SD, Sandra’s children Keith & Marlys Harman, of Fruita, CO, Scott & Debbie Harman, of Story, WY, and their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his partner Sandra Harman, his parents, Albert and Hazel Hipschman, his brother, Don Hipschman, his sisters, Mary (Hipschman) Gapp and Susan Margaret Hipschman, and his nephew Chuck Hipschman.
