Paul Hix Obituary

Paul Richard Hix, 66, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, August 29th, 2025. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:00 am at Texoma Cowboy Church, with visitation from 9:30-10:00 am. Born on February 5, 1959, in Haskell, Texas, to Richard Leon Hix and Lelia Jones Hix, Paul spent his childhood in both Haskell and Wichita Falls. His childhood years shaped his deep love for the outdoors, his strong work ethic, and his unwavering devotion to family.

On June 14, 1997, Paul married Anita Christine Louderback, and together they raised five children: Carissa Long (and husband Nicholas), Craig McKee (and wife Kelli), Blair Hix, Anna Vaughan (and fiancé Garrett Healey), and Ryan Vaughan (and wife Micah). The Hix household was always full of life, laughter, and a little bit of chaos-something Paul embraced with open arms. As their family grew, so did the volume level, especially with the addition of each grandchild. Paul's favorite topic of conversation was always his beloved grandkids. Whether he was sharing stories about Gabriel, Aiden, Kinley, James, Carley, Ava, Obi, Landon, Winnie, Avery, or Rosie, you could tell how deeply he cherished each of them. To Paul, the title of Papaw was his proudest role.

A master electrician and project estimator by trade, Paul earned a stellar reputation within the IBEW community. Even after retirement, his skills were sought after by colleagues who respected his knowledge, integrity, and the quality of his work.

When Paul wasn't working, you could find him in the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, camper, and hiker-always planning the next adventure or reminiscing about past trips. Many of his fondest memories were made on these outdoor excursions, especially those shared with his brothers. As his grandchildren grew older, Paul was thrilled to introduce them to these beloved pastimes, passing down his love for nature and adventure.

Paul's strength, both physical and emotional, was evident throughout his life. This was never more apparent than in the months following his stroke, when he fought with remarkable determination and grit. His perseverance was a testament to his resilience, and it gave his family the precious gift of ten extra months together.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Chris; his mother, Lelia; and his granddaughter, Eisley. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, his father Richard and stepmother Dorothy, his siblings Mark Hix, Kimberly Trant and husband Glenn, and Douglas Hix and wife Melissa, his mother-in-law Evelyn, and numerous nieces and nephews who were deeply cherished by him.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Encompass and North Texas Rehab for helping Paul achieve his goal of living independently and allowing the family 10 more months with him. We also wish to express our deepest gratitude to the nursing staff at URHCS ICU and Hospice of Wichita Falls for their compassionate care and unwavering support during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Paul's memory to Hospice of Wichita Falls or the Texoma Cowboy Church Children's Ministry.
