Paul Meade Hockenbery

Paul Meade Hockenbery, 87, of Germantown, MD passed away on December 1, 2025.

He was the loving husband to Shirley Irene Hockenbery (Garner) for 61 years.

Born on September 16, 1938, in Blairs Mills , PA, he was the youngest of 4 children to the late Bryan Theodore and Rhoda Verneta Hockenbery, also of Blairs Mills, PA.

He was predeceased in life by his parents, Bryan and Verneta, and his 3 siblings, Warren, Linda and Roland.

Surviving are his wife Shirley, and his children and grandchildren; Bryan Theodore Hockenbery (Chontelle), Joel Paul Hockenbery (Carlene), Kellie Lynne Hottel (Scot), Rachael Jackson (Erin), Gavin Hockenbery (Bethany), Brittany Hottel, Kylee Lear (Hunter), and Dustin Hottel.

Paul was a veteran, serving in U.S.Army after being drafted. He came to Maryland in 1958, following his brother Roland and sister Linda. He was home to visit his mother on a weekend in 1963 when he met his wife Shirley at a local dance. They were married on November 7, 1964 and sons Bryan(1967) and Joel(1968) soon followed. Daughter Kellie(1975) is the youngest child. Paul began a career in the electrical trade in the early 60's, working in residential for a short time, then moving to commercial. He was employed by the Truland Corporation, where he received several craftsmanship awards for outstanding performance on jobs, of which he was extremely proud. Paul was quick to help a stranger, and was very dedicated to his family. He was active in the church for many years with his wife Shirley. Paul had many skills, and was very handy. He was an outdoorsman, teaching his sons to hunt and play sports. Paul loved baseball, which he not only played, but also coached and umpired. He was well known for his consistent strike zone. Paul also played softball until he was no longer able. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete in sporting events as well.

The family will be receiving friends at the Bush Creek Church, 4821 Green Valley Rd., Monrovia, MD. 21770 on Saturday, December 13th at 10am.

Viewing and visitation will be from 10-11, with a service and burial to follow. Friends are asked to stay for a meal following the burial.
