Paul Irwin

1947 - 2025

Paul Lawrence Irwin, born on March 12, 1947, passed away on November 11, 2025, at the age of 78. A devoted educator, Paul dedicated 42 years to teaching Mathematics at Randolph-Macon Woman's College, where he was cherished by his students and colleagues alike. His passion for learning and commitment to his academic family left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Paul's life was rich with interests that reflected his love of both the simple and the profound. He enjoyed the tranquility of gardening and found satisfaction in painting fences and benches in Colonial Williamsburg. His adventurous spirit took him traveling frequently, particularly to the beach and England, places he held dear. Ever resourceful, Paul took pleasure in fixing things around the house and was often seen riding his bike through town, embracing life's everyday journeys.

He was a scholar of distinction, having earned his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Maryland. His professional achievements were matched by a personal life filled with love and joy.

Preceded in death by his parents, David and Miriam Irwin, Paul leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda Irwin; his daughter, Sarah Menefee, and her husband, Matthew; and his cherished grandchildren, Landon and Barrett. Paul's legacy of kindness, intellect, and warmth will be carried on by those who survive him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Paul's life on Sunday, November 23, 2025. A receiving of friends and family will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., immediately followed by a service at Bucktrout Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Paul's name to any local food bank, reflecting his spirit of generosity and care for others.
