Paul W. Johnson, 90, of Ashton, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on 31 January 2026.
Born 15 June 1935 in Roanoke, VA, Paul lived a life of service and deep devotion to family and friends. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church from growing up in Baltimore, Maryland to being an active member of Ashton United Methodist Church where he served as Treasurer for many years.
Paul was a proud graduate of the University of Maryland, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He went on to a professional career with the United States Bureau of Mines.
Beyond his work life, Paul was deeply engaged in his community. He was a 50+ year member of the Wheaton Masonic Lodge as well as an active member of the Sandy Spring Lions Club valuing service, supporting charitable causes and community initiatives throughout the years.
Above all else, Paul cherished family and friends. He was married for 67 years to his precious wife, Betty, with whom he shared a life rooted in Christian values, love and family. Paul was a caring and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In his spare time Paul enjoyed camping, traveling, photography, being Church Treasurer and was known for his quite nature, integrity and a whitty sense of humor.
Paul is survived by – Wife Betty; Son Eric (Ann) - Zach (Carly), Steven (Maggie) and Caroline, Ethan (Jamie), Megan; Son Craig (Laura) - Wyatt (Destyni) and Colton and Owen, Hunter, Liam; Daughter Debra - Lilly and Maddie; and extended family including 4 brother/sister in-laws, 3 nieces, 3 nephews, 7 grandnieces/nephews and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Annie, brother Harold, sister Mary (Patrick), niece Julia and nephew David.
Viewing and Funeral service will be held at Ashton United Methodist Church, 17314 New Hampshire Avenue, Ashton, MD, Sunday 8 February 2026 with viewing 2:00-3:00 pm, service 3:00 pm and lite fare social gathering after the service. Interment and service will be in Denton, North Carolina at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ashton UMC Scholarship Fund or American Diabetes Association.
