Paul Kernicky Obituary
Because our father lived life to the fullest, Paul F. Kernicky's love of life won't end with his death. His stories, his memories, his smile, live on with his children, grandchildren, friends, and his extended family. Paul passed away peacefully, June 11th, 2024 at home and surrounded by family after a fearless battle with cancer at the age of 88.
Born August 9th, 1935 in
Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania to Michael and Rosalie (Malecz) Kernicky, Paul was one of 11 born children. Paul enlisted in the Navy in January, 1953 and then in June, 1954 he enlisted in the Marines. Stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, San Diego and 2 years oversees in Okinawa Japan, the man had some stories. And wow, could he tell you some good ones. He was a storyteller, a marine, a fisherman and hunter, a prankster, and an avid golfer who loved to play the lottery. But above all else, his pride and joy were being a Dad and a Pop Pop!
Paul lived a simple life, but one filled with plenty of pleasures. He married Agnes in 1966 and helped raise four children in Springfield Pa. It was there he formed amazing friendships with his neighbors on Barbara Drive; Charlie, Jimmy, Jane, and Barbara all knew how to have a good time while raising their children who too became life-long best of friends. Paul and his friend, Jimmy McCusker, started a golf league in 1978. That Golf League still exists today and was renamed to the "Paul Kernicky's Senior Golf League" in 2020. It was that year he won his fifth Championship trophy at the age of 85.
Paul is survived by his children whom he was so proud of, Kathleen (Mike), Maureen (Doug), Paul (Kelley), Kimberly (Mike). His grandchildren whom he loved and adored, Michael, Justin, Ryan, Katelyn, Kayla, and James. And his surviving brothers and sister, Mike, Joe, Mary, and Johnny, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Paul was proceeded in death by his parents, Michael, and Rosalie. Our Auntie, his best friend and brother Greg and his sisters, Katherine, Margie, and Rosalie.
As is a tale, so is a life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters. He was so lucky: He had both and we were lucky to have known and loved this amazing man for as long as we did. Paul touched so many with his humor, his contagious smile, his love for his family, friends, the Marine Corps, and his country.
And He was a miracle, have we told you the story about how he survived Polio as a child? That was one of his favorites. May all his stories live on.
Semper Fidelis Dad
