1942 - 2024

Paul T. McCommons, 81, of Latrobe (Unity Township), passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Feb. 18, 1942, in Butler, to the late Alice McCommons-Filipone. He served his country as a member of the Navy. Paul attended Pennsylvania State University and earned a associate's degree in criminal justice. His working career included the Pennsylvania State Police in Greensburg for 32 years, where he attained the rank of corporal and the Butler city police. He also served as chief deputy in the Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office. He served as president of the Pennsylvania State Troopers Association for 16 years and more than two decades as the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 62 president. Paul was a member of King Solomon's Lodge No. 346 Free & Accepted Masons, York Rite Masons, Valley of New Castle Scottish Rite Masons and the Syria Shrine. He was also a Past Master of Loyalhanna Lodge No. 275, Latrobe and an active member of the PIN Club for Police Officers. Paul also served his community as a member of the Greater Latrobe School Board. He enjoyed being with his hunting buddy, his son, Dave, and he enjoyed being chauffeured around town by his daughter, Paula. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Charity Marotti; and a brother, Harry McCommons. Paul is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Susan Anderson McCommons; a daughter, Dr. Paula Sue McCommons; a son, Dr. David Paul McCommons and his wife, Dr. Megan McCommons; and three granddaughters, Meredith, Lucia, and Francesca. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Eau Claire Cemetery, Eau Claire.
