Paul Joseph O'Brien went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at St. Sabina Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Avenue, Belton, MO 64012 with visitation 9-10:00 AM Wednesday with Rosary at 8:45 AM at the church. Burial will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Higginsville, 20109 Business Highway 13, Higginsville, MO 64037. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 8745 James A. Reed Rd., Kansas City, MO 64138;

Paul was born on July 4, 1945 in Kansas City, MO to the late Dr. & Mrs. Leo O'Brien MD. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Leo, Richard, George and Dan and 7 sister: May Pat, Frances, Susie, Rose, Teresa, Sara and Diane; brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Darlene Holcomb. He is survived by his wife Mary Jo of 57 years; children, Christine Neely (Sean), Paul O'Brien (Amy), Jennifer Johnson (Eric); one brother, Larry O'Brien (Gloria); nine grandchildren, Jenny and Jamie Neely, Megan O'Brien-Wright (Tyler), Paul Michael O'Brien (Nicole), Michele O'Brien, Mason O'Brien, Joshua Payton, Ashton, and Josephine Null; three great grandchildren, Noah and Liam Wright, and Knox Skrip; brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Linda Holcomb and many nieces and nephews.
Paul J. O'Brien, a devoted father, husband, entrepreneur, talented musician, and beloved community member, passed away peacefully at the age of 79. Born on July 4, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, Paul lived a vibrant life filled with love, creativity, and dedication. Paul was the proud owner and operator of several successful businesses, including Black & White Vending, Mainly Records, Cass Gazette Inc. (which he managed for 40 years), and the Burger Spot on Troost Ave. His entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic were evident in every endeavor he pursued. Before his ventures in business, Paul worked at Yellow Freight for 15 years, where he was known for his unwavering commitment and reliability. His service to his country was also marked by two years of military duty, a testament to his sense of duty and patriotism. Beyond his professional achievements, Paul's passion for music was a defining part of his life. He played in several groups, including Little Willie and the Hyde-A-Ways, the O'Brien Brothers, Larry, Paul, and My Other Brother Gary. Paul also delighted audiences as a one-man band, sharing his love for music with all who listened. Paul's legacy will be remembered by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey. His warmth, humor, and generosity will be missed dearly.
Food will be served immediately following Mass. Everyone is invited to join the family back at the O'Brien Home, 1606 Knoll Creek Lane, 
Raymore, Missouri after the grave side service to share stories, laughter, and fond memories of Paul.
