Paul Oberholtzer Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary North on Nov. 6, 2016.
Paul Nelson Oberholtzer, 58, of San Antonio met with the Lord quietly in his sleep on November 6, 2016. He was born on December 20, 1957 to Nelson Oberholtzer and Nelwyn Oberholtzer in Tyler, TX. Paul was an incredibly big hearted man. He adored his family and was a phenomenal provider. He was a devoted husband, father, Opa, brother and friend. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Paul had a passion for cars and was a master technician; you could often find him under the hood of the most complex cars. He also had a knack for telling corny jokes and making everyone in the room smile. Anyone who came across his path would get a friendly wave and all the neighbors knew him. His favorite past times included being at the ranch, in the boat on the water or spending time with his toes in the sand at the beach; although he never wore sunscreen and was often as red as a lobster by the end of the day. It is impossible to quantify the impact he has had on each person he encountered with words, but the memories will live on in our hearts forever. Paul was preceded in death by his parents Nelson and Nelwyn Oberholtzer, Lucinda Simons, and Madalynn Oberholtzer (granddaughter). He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jackie Oberholtzer; daughter Amanda Mendler and sons Casey Oberholtzer (Callie) and Jesse Oberholtzer. He is also survived by his sisters, Luncinda Linder (Terry), Lydia Oberholtzer (John) and step-sister Ann Hutson (Bob) and brother Dr. Kem Oberholtzer (Jan) and step-brother Joel Hutson (Carolyn). He is also survived my many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. The family will welcome visitors on Friday November 11, 2016 from 7:00-8:00pm at Porter Loring North Mortuary. A service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 3 PM at the chapel at Porter Loring North on 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78232 with visitation 1 hour prior.

Mr. Oberholtzer,

It has been several years but I still remember you and your family like it was yesterday. What sticks out most in my mind was how energetic and pleasant you always were to be around. Laughing with you, your wife Jackie, my Dad, and Jesse are memories that I will hold dear to my heart. This is way to early for you but God must have needed you to do great things in heaven now, and I know that you are leaving behind a great legacy and family. I miss you buddy.

To the love of my life.

we dated for 3 years and married for 38 years. We had a love story that defined more than 42 years and that rarely happens in a relationship. paul and i were two of the lucky ones. we surpassed all of the troubles that came our way together and our love never faulted. every problem that was set before us made us stronger as a couple and as friends. we knew that GOD was there to intervene because we had a true companionship and it was worth it. my best friend had so many friends in this world that i didnt even know about. they would stop him in the street just to talk to him. there was one man in particular at the corner and they really seemed to get along. the attendants at all the stores around the area enjoyed his smiling face, jokes, and positive attitude and they brightened up themselves when they saw him walk in the door. at work every morning he would go to each one of his fellow employees and friends, shake their hands, tell them good morning and reach out to them to see how they were doing. they all knew that having him there was an improvement in there lives and theyre day would be that much easier. he was greatly respected and valued to all and his absence will be felt. i will miss my best friend, my husband and the love of my life. thank you for everything you did for me and know that i will always cherish the memories of us together. i love you paul.

Oh Paul,
I can't believe you are gone! My heart is broken. My comfort comes from knowing you are no longer in pain and are running around heaven in your new body, cracking corny jokes. I will be looking forward to seeing you again and till then, I will be here for your family.
All my love always.
Love,
Lyd
