Paul Samuel Phillippe, born December 9, 1929, on the island of Saba, Dutch West Indies, to Everett and Eunice Phillippe, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Preceded in death by his parents, one son, James Joel, brother Marcus, and sister Naomi Croft.
Survived by wife, Sally of Bartlesville, OK; sister, Esther of Dewey, OK; five children, David and Sandy Phillippe of Waxahatche TX, Rachel and Josima Ferreira of Sladington, PA, Joe and Rita Phillippe of Bartlesville, OK, Debbie and David Keith of Richmond, VA, and Becky and Graham MacCallum of Olathe KS; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
In 1953 Paul received a Bachelor of Theology degree from Frankfort Pilgrim College in Indiana, shortly thereafter marrying his life-long companion, Sally Hart on August 7, spending the next 71 years together.
Boston was their first home, where Paul furthered his education, earning a Masters of Religious Education from Andover Newton Seminary. While in seminary he pastored a church plant made up primarily of West Indian immigrants.
The next stop along this journey was a church in Fox Hill, New York. Then in 1958 the Mission Board of the Pilgrim Holiness Church asked them to go cross-culturally to Paramakatoi, Guyana in South America, where they trained pastors to reach other neighboring tribes.
In 1960 the family moved to Brazil to help start a pioneer work alongside Paul and Lois Downey. These two families bonded and worked together in church planting, pastoring, building churches, establishing a Bible School and just about anything else a pioneer missionary must do to advance the Kingdom of God. As a result of their faithful service, the church in Brazil has continued to thrive to the point where they have sent missionaries to other parts of the world.
Paul and Sally retired in 1991 after 35 years of missionary service. In retirement they continued ministering through pastor visitation for several years.
Paul's heart's desire was to be in church every time the doors were open. He worshiped the Lord through enthusiastic singing of beloved hymns. Even after losing most of his vision, he sang the words from his heart, from memory never missing a word or a note of all the verses, all the choruses, standing even when it was difficult at the age of 95 because he wanted to praise His Lord and Savior with his whole being. Near the end, though his physical eyes were dimming, his mind often confused, his spiritual eyes were clear. He was longing for Heaven.
This legacy of steadfast faith and service to God continues through the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a man with a firm faith in His loving heavenly Father. He will be missed by all who knew him.
