Paul Ray Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield on Feb. 19, 2026.
Paul James Ray III, 79, of Winfield, Kansas, formerly of Emporia and Eureka, Kansas, peacefully fell asleep in death on February 12, 2026, at his home in Winfield.
Paul was born on November 5, 1946, in Pasadena, California, the son of Paul Jr. and Ella Ray.
On February 1, 1969, Paul married Kathy Myers. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. To this union two sons were born, David and Philip.
Paul is survived by his wife, Kathy, of the home; his son Philip and wife Anna; and grandchildren Cheyenne and Talon, all of Winfield. He is also survived by his brothers, Alex (Karen) of Roswell, Georgia, and Joseph of Bend, Oregon; his sister, Chris Sloan of Temecula, California; his nephew, Micah (Shaelyn) Ray and children Bond and Chloe of Georgia; and his niece, Melissa (Mat) Lumpkin and children Ava and Luke of Georgia. Paul was preceded in death by his son, David and his parents.
Paul was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on December 9, 1967. He loved teaching others about his God, Jehovah, and the wonderful promises for the future found in the Bible. His faith shaped his life and gave him steady hope.
Paul was a carpenter for most of his life and took pride in his work. He taught his sons the trade while working alongside them, passing on not only skill, but also the value of diligence and integrity. He then worked for KDOT as an Inspector. He retired on January 1, 2013. Those who knew him appreciated his steady presence, strong hands and quiet humor.
Paul's memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1112 E. 19th Ave., Winfield, Kansas. A Zoom option is also available.
