Paul Samarco Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 19, 2026.
Paul Francis Samarco, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026. He was the son of Jean and Frank Samarco and brother to Kay (John) Prokipchak, all of whom preceded him in death.

In 1962 he married Mary Jo Horn, and together they had four children. Paul was famous for his Dad Jokes, puns and wry sense of humor. He had a kind and gentle way about him and valued family, independence and forging one's own path. Twice a year Paul loaded up all four kids and made the long trek from Michigan to Pennsylvania to visit his mother, sister and extended family. Those trips were a highlight for all – memories filled with fun and laughter.

Paul is survived by two daughters, Therese Samarco (Jim Bird) and Angela Samarco, one son, Curt Vincent Samarco and eight grandchildren, Martin Samarco, Joshua Samarco (Jasmine), Curtis Samarco (Lawanda), Corina Samarco, Maryssa (Ronel) Torrentine, Hadley Samarco, Josh Smith and Sarah (Kris) Thorsrud, several great grandchildren and nieces Mary Jo (Paul) Schroder and Jean (Kevin) Eberle. He was preceded in death by his nephew Tom (Hedy) Prokipchak and youngest beloved daughter, Frances Cocagne (Samarco).

A proud graduate of the University of Michigan, Paul earned his master's degree and went on to dedicate his career to education. A lifelong learner, he later trained as a holistic counselor, developing a private practice where he touched many lives. He was also an avid Pistons and Michigan Football fan, loved ice cream and playing a good game of cards or Kismet with the family.

The family will hold a private gathering to celebrate Paul's life. There will be no formal service.
