Paul Sipes, 81, of Johnsville, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, at Primrose of Mansfield surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 28, 1944, in
Galion, Ohio, to the late Kinsel Charles and Mabel Alberta (Snyder) Sipes.
It was at Camp Sychar, as teenagers, that Paul met the love of his life, June (Brooks). Their story began at ages 13 and 14 and grew into a lifelong partnership. They were united in marriage on January 23, 1965, sharing decades of love, faith, and family. Paul deeply loved his bride, June, and it showed in the simple, everyday moments-like staying behind after meals to wash dishes, just so he could spend time with her.
Early on, Paul was a Boy Scout. He was diligent and progressed through the program ultimately achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
Paul chose to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy on February 19, 1963, serving honorably until February 17, 1967.
Following his service, he was a proud member of the Pioneer class of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, then finished his bachelors Summa cum laude from Bethany Nazarene College (Southern Nazarene University).
A lifelong learner and dedicated professional, Paul built a career as an accountant, working in a wide range of roles throughout his life, including positions with the U.S. Navy, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Peabody Galion, White Westinghouse, Trevecca Nazarene University, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Ideal Electric Co., Hairston & Oswalt CPA, Community Counseling, Appleseed Counseling, Global Lead, and Snyder Funeral Home.
Paul's life was marked by his deep faith, strong work ethic, and commitment to serving others. He was an active member of Westwood Alliance Church for 48 years, where he faithfully served in many roles including elder, small group leader, choir member, organist and regular participant in the men's breakfast. His daily routine was grounded in his devotion to God-he was a devoted student of The Word and Theology, carefully taking notes during every sermon and setting aside time each morning for personal devotions.
Paul also found great joy in time spent with family. He loved big family meals, often popping up shortly after a meal was done and asking " don't you think we should order a pizza?" And when it came to ice cream, he rarely passed up the opportunity to stop and enjoy a treat. Paul enjoyed traveling, hiking - especially the Grand Canyon, walking with June, gardening, and big outdoor projects-from collecting maple sap to bushhoggin his property.
Paul was deeply involved in numerous nonprofit and community organizations, generously giving both his time and resources. His involvement included CACY, Richland Pregnancy Services, Westwood Alliance Church, Perry Cook Memorial Library, Lifewise - Northmor, and the Johnsville Alumni Association. He found great joy in helping others and investing in causes that mattered.
He will be remembered as a great listener, a thoughtful conversationalist, and a man who genuinely cared about people. Above all, Paul cherished his personal relationship with His Lord and loved the people around him. His strong work ethic and values leave a lasting impact on his children & grandchildren and on all who knew him.
Paul is survived by his bride June Sipes; children Michael Sipes (Mike), Lisa Smythe (Joel) and Becky Steensland (Mark); grandchildren Drew, Levi and Lily Steensland and Brandon and Gianna Smythe, brother-in-law Bill Miller, brothers and sisters-in-law, Ned & Barbara Brooks, Paul and Ann Griffis, many beloved nieces and nephews and their beautiful children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Helen Sipes Miller, brother Baby Floyd Sipes and sister-in-law Sue Ross.
His family will receive friends, Friday, March 27, 2026 from 4-7 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home.
