On October 14, 2007, Doc married Alma Omecnol at New Life Church in Rochester. He worked as a delivery driver for Dean Foods in Rochester until they closed in 2015. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and sharing his love for collectibles with his daughters and grandsons. He was an avid fan of Batman, Godzilla, and Jackie Chan. Doc loved his family and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be from 4-8 PM EDT Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM EDT Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
Burial will take place at Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Monterey, IN. The American Legion will conduct Military Graveside Services.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the family c/o Alma Smith.
Online Tributes may be offered at www.frainmortuary.com.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
