Paul Robert Smith passed away tragically on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, after being struck in an auto-pedestrian accident.
Paul was born on February 5, 1947, in Murray, Utah, to Alfred and Lucy Smith. He spent his childhood in Kamas and Delta, Utah—places he always carried with him. Those small towns helped shape Paul into the steady, familiar presence many came to know and appreciate. Later, he lived in Bozeman, Montana, but eventually found his way back to Delta, Utah, where he spent his final years. There, Paul built friendships that meant a great deal to him, enjoying simple conversations and the comfort of being around people he liked.
Paul had a true love for the Utah Jazz and was also a devoted hockey fan. He proudly volunteered with the IceDogs hockey team, a role he greatly enjoyed. Alongside his love for sports, Paul had an even greater devotion to his cocker spaniels. Over the years, he shared his life with many of these dogs, each one deeply loved and treated like family. He also enjoyed traveling to family reunions and treasured time spent with his family—moments filled with stories, laughter, and connection that will live on in memory.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Tami Meyerdirk; his grandson, Junior; his siblings, Vicky Sweatfield, Becky Smith, Steven Smith, Emily Smith, and Judy Stanworth; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him and will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Lucy Smith; his brother, Alfred Smith; and his aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Graveside services will be held on February 6, 2026, at 2 p.m. at the Marion Cemetery.
