Thomas Brown Obituary

Thomas Edward Brown

1933 ~ 2026

Peoa, UT-Our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Thomas Edward Brown, passed away peacefully January 23, 2026, at his home in Peoa, Utah, at the age of 92.

He was born March 3, 1933, in Ogden, Utah, to Thomas Edward Brown and Lorea Lee Hickman. He grew up in the small town of Rockport, Utah, where despite living in a small house with no running water and needing to sleep on a steel cot in the kitchen, he developed unshakeable faith and optimism and the ability to see good in all circumstances and people.

He graduated from North Summit High School and Utah State University. Later, he obtained a master's degree from Brigham Young University.

He married the love of his life, Marilyn Ruth Jensen, on June 1, 1954, in the Salt Lake Temple. They spent five years in Germany and Georgia, while Tom was on active duty in the Army. They moved to Ogden, Utah, following his discharge, and later to Peoa, Utah. Tom remained in the Army reserve until he retired at the rank of colonel.

Tom and Marilyn had seven children whom they taught to love God and serve others. They were wonderful examples and Tom served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including bishop, stake president, mission president, patriarch and temple sealer. Tom often marveled at the things God was able to somehow do with a boy who was not active in the Church until adulthood.

Tom began his professional career as a technical writer and editor at Thiokol Chemical Corporation, where he worked for eight years. He then worked for 32 years in various roles at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His role in automating Church membership and financial records took him around the world. The young man from the tiny town of Rockport ended up training people in more than 50 countries. And whether it was hiring and training people in Tonga or supervising the installation of a satellite system in Europe, Tom loved meeting people from all walks of life and was deeply interested in them.

Tom was also active in politics and community affairs. He served on the Summit County Planning Commission; was active in the Republican Party; and spent many hours participating in Habitat for Humanity, the Boy Scouts of America, the United Way and other organizations.

Tom accomplished many things in life and had wonderful experiences that often caused him to wonder how he had been so fortunate. And although he flew over Mt. Everest, climbed the Pyramid of the Sun and visited the Taj Mahal, he will not be remembered for his travels around the world, but for how he made people around the world feel. He made them feel loved and important, not just by him, but more importantly, by God. He naturally followed the Savior's direction to "love one another" and became dearly loved for it.

Tom was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Marilyn; a beautiful granddaughter, Holly Siddoway; and two beautiful great granddaughters, Avalee and Jolee Stewart. He is survived by his seven children: Cathy Ann (John) Ure; Susan Kay (Frank) Siddoway; Mark Edward (Michele) Brown; Jeffery Thomas (Cheryl) Brown; David Whitney (Anna) Brown; Steven Preston (Melanie) Brown; and Julie Ann (David) Peterson. He and Marilyn have 37 grandchildren and 75 great grandchildren.

He inspired us all to love, laugh and be kind to others. And his life and teachings will never be forgotten.

Memorial services will be Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1224 West State Road 32, Peoa, Utah, 84061. Like so many that worked for the Church, my life was impacted positively by this great man. He was a real leader who made everyone feel heard and appreciated. His impact will continue for generations.

I was hired to work as Tom's secretary when he was involved in the automating of church membership records. This was my first real secretarial job and I know I was lacking experience, but Tom made me feel like I was the best secretary ever. He was truly a great example to me of what a Christ-like person should be. Bless you Tom!
