Paul Spock Obituary

Paul Stephen Spock

October 13, 1947 - January 22, 2025

State College, Pennsylvania - Paul Stephen Spock, Sr., age 77, of State College, died on January 22, 2025 at Mount Nittany Medical Center surrounded by family. Born on October 13, 1947 in Plainfield, New Jersey, Paul was the son of the late Alfred and Mary (Rottman) Spock. On January 1, 1968, he married the love of his life, Lorraine (Dawson) Spock who survives at home.

Paul, a Staff Sergeant in the Army, served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged after earning the Vietnam Gallantry Cross and the Purple Heart. Paul was an analytical chemist with Gollob Analytical, Exxon, Supelco, and retired from the USDA after more than 20 years of service with the federal government.

Paul was an avid fisherman with a keen interest in photography, sports, and reading. He loved family board games, chess, and pinochle. As a dedicated snowbird, he enjoyed sunny days at the beach or pool in Florida with family. Paul hosted an annual community fishing event, coordinating prizes and trophies through his volunteer work with the VFW. He authored 5 books, held 3 US patents, sang in a doo-wop group, loved classic movies, completed his daily crossword in pen, and indulged in dessert at the end of every meal. His family will deeply miss his laughter, curiosity, and zest for life.

In addition to his wife Lorraine, Paul is survived by his 4 children, Wendy, Paul (Melissa), Sara (Daniel), Lauren (Chris); his 11 grandchildren, Brennan, Samuel, Oliver, Finn, Anna-Faye, Marielle, Rowan, Bennet, Luna, Reya, and Odin; his brother, Charles (Patricia); his aunt, AnnaMay and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mary; brother, William; sister, Marie and son-in-law, Scott.

Paul was a member of the State College Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. A memorial service in Paul's honor will be held at the State College Kingdom Hall on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 1:00pm. Burial services will be held privately.
