Paul WINDUST Obituary

May 21, 1953 - September 19, 2023

William "Paul" Windust died Sept 19th, 2023, of cancer. He was born May 21st, 1953, in Fairbanks, Territory of Alaska. His first home was a hunting and fishing lodge his family owned in Paxson, AK; he remembered the celebration of Alaska's statehood. Paul's family moved to Spokane when he was 6 yrs old, and he attended Irving Grade School and Lewis & Clark High School. After the death of his father, his mother remarried and the family moved onto a sailboat moored in Lake Union. He graduated from Queen Anne High School where he excelled in football and swimming, and attended Seattle Pacific College and Western Washington State College. He was on SPC's inaugural rowing team. In his youth, he worked the fields of Eastern Washington and ran boats from Puget Sound to the Gulf of Alaska. He spent his professional career as a Local 302 Operating Engineer at Ace Paving Co, Bremerton, Wa. In his "retirement", he enjoyed driving for Puget Sound Precision. He loved machinery, heavy equipment, boating, sailing, piloting small aircraft, motor homing, his Corvette, fixing motors, collecting "good deals", and family and friends. He loved to exchange stories and jokes. He was predeceased by his father, William "Bill" Windust, mother, Doris Donfried, and sister, Carin Windust. He is survived by his wife, Debbie of Poulsbo, daughter, Chelsea Mathews (Nathaniel) of Poulsbo, son, John Windust (Danielle) of Spokane, sister, Stacy Siewert (Kim) of Sammamish, and grandchildren, Eldon, Josie, Paxson & Dean. A Celebration of Life will be at the Poulsbo Yacht Club on Saturday, March 9th at 1:00pm. Tax-deductible donations may be made in Paul's memory to the Eric Peterson Memorial Foundation, PMB#230, 19689 7th Ave NE Suite 183, Poulsbo, WA 98370, with a notation "FOR PYC JR. SAILING".
