Paul Worst Obituary

Paul Francis Worst, 66, of Butler, passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025, after a long-fought battle with colon cancer.
Born Feb. 10, 1959, in Butler, he was the youngest son of Harold and Anna Worst, who preceded him in death along with his brother, Ronald Worst; and sister, Marian McFarland.
Paul's life was defined not just by his achievements, but by the love he had for his family and the joy he brought to those around him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Maria A. (Martonik) Worst, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage after their union at St. Conrad Church on Aug. 21, 1982. Together, they raised four remarkable children, John P. (Bethany) Worst, Chris R. (Becca) Worst, Kimberly M. (Eric) Lawrence, and Julie A. (James Christopher) Maloney. Paul took immense pride in his role as Papa and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, Lucas and Lily Worst, Claira Worst, and Stetson, Colton and Scarlett Lawrence.
Family meant everything to Paul, and he leaves behind not only his immediate family but also his siblings, Virginia (Orlo) Hall, Harold "Bussie" Worst, Bernadette Magill, and Claria (Ron) Greene. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews, whose lives he touched with his vibrant spirit and playful nature.
Paul's education was marked by his drive for excellence. He earned a master's degree in organizational leadership, which complemented his successful career at Mine Safety Appliance Company, where he worked tirelessly for 42 years as a senior standard compliance engineer.
A proud Marine Corps reservist, Paul carried the values of discipline and camaraderie into his community involvement. He was a member of All Saints Parish, and their Men's Club. He was a dedicated member of St. Christopher's Cancer Support Group and served as a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, where he instilled in youth the same love of the outdoors that he cherished. His legacy of service extended to his participation as a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and as a volunteer at the Butler Fair and Farm shows, helping with the arts and crafts and farm products buildings.
Paul was not only a dedicated family man and professional, he was also an avid woodworker, known for crafting thoughtful pieces for his loved ones. His garden flourished under his care, and he delighted in sharing various hobbies with his children and grandchildren. He had a remarkable sense of humor and maintained a childlike spirit that endeared him to all who knew him.
His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at UPMC Shadyside and the Hillman Cancer Center, especially Dr. Dobrzynski, for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Paul during his illness.
The community is invited to join in celebrating the life of a man who brought laughter, love, and light into the lives of so many.
Paul Francis Worst will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his community, and his joyful spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and strength that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

My sincere sympathies Maria. Paul and I were hired around the same time at MSA in Evans City. We shared that "New Hiree" bond and friendship throughout our years at MSA. My prayers are with you and you family.

Paul inspired me with his courage. I knew him through his daughter Maria. Any time I saw him, he was always busy, in spite of difficult treatments he was on. He even kept up with church and other activities. God bless you, Paul. You are victorious!
